Position / Title: Driving Range Superintendent
Facility Description: 40 Acre Grass Driving Range
Experience Desired: The Superintendent shall direct and oversee the maintenance of all landscaped areas on the premises including the driving range and areas around buildings. The Superintendent is responsible for supervision of a maintenance staff, care and maintenance of golf maintenance equipment and golf carts, the purchase of pesticides, chemicals, soil amendments and other supplies used in the maintenance of the golf course and other areas and maintaining appropriate records for the maintenance department. The Superintendent shall work closely with the Owners and with the officers of the employer. Superintendent shall also be responsible for working within a budget and to cooperate and advise the employer regarding budgets for future years.
Duties Description: The duties of the Superintendent should include:
- Direct, coordinate and oversee the maintenance of all landscaped areas including the driving range and areas around the club’s buildings in a superior condition and in accordance with standards for a top quality public daily fee golf course as modified by the advice and direction of the officers of the employer.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate an appropriate maintenance crew in accordance with company policies, standards, and procedures and in accordance with law.
- Direct, coordinate and oversee the maintenance and care of all golf course maintenance equipment and carts.
- Develop, coordinate, and carry out programs for the maintenance and care of the golf course including all surfaces (greens, bunkers, tees, fairways, rough), all surrounding bodies of water, grasses, and trees.
- Carry out appropriate administrative duties including the maintenance of appropriate labor records, equipment maintenance schedules, chemical, irrigation and fertilizer inventory control records, purchase and expense records, and other documentation reasonably necessary for accounting and management functions.
- Specific responsibilities include supervising water, mowing and fertilization functions, supervising work schedules, selecting the proper grasses, chemicals, fertilizers, and other supplies and advising on appropriate equipment best suited for the maintenance of the golf course
- Provide for the security of the golf course, practice facility, clubhouse grounds, maintenance facility, maintenance equipment, materials and supplies and preserve the value of the same.
- Accept joint responsibility for the security of all other assets of the facility including the clubhouse, clubhouse equipment, merchandise inventories and furniture.
- Coordinate with other managers at facility regarding personnel records, payroll and payroll records, accounts payable and other bookkeeping matters, use of the clubhouse, the playability of the range, opening and closing the facilities, and training employees regarding golf course etiquette and customer service and any other duties reasonably related to efficient operation.
The individual who fills this position is a Manager. This job is considered a year-round position. (There is no layoff or unemployment during the off-season.) Vacations must be taken during the off-season.
Special Skills: - Four (4) year college degree with specialty in agronomy, horticulture, plant and or soil science.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the general rules of golf and the general rules of golf etiquette.
- Computer skills.

Educational Requirements
Education Level Required: - Two (2) year Associate’s Degree in turf grass management/golf course management or, in lieu thereof, substantial experience as a superintendent.
Experience Requirements
- Working technical knowledge and experience in the care of special grasses used on golf courses.
- Working knowledge and experience with irrigation systems and golf course water features (lakes, streams, storage ponds, etc).
- Experience with the hiring, training, direction, and supervision of a maintenance crew related to golf course maintenance.
- Must have excellent and complete knowledge of propagation, planting, cultivating and watering grasses plants and trees.
- Must have ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the golfing public.
- Must have excellent management skills and the ability to schedule and supervise an efficient maintenance staff.
- A valid driver’s license, State pesticide license.
- At least five (5) years experience in golf course maintenance as an assistant superintendent.
