A Day on the Job (Summary):

Country Club of Detroit is looking for an Equipment Manager who is passionate, innovative, forward-thinking and visionary towards creating a reliable, proactive equipment maintenance plan as well as fostering a mentorship program with Assistant Equipment Manager and providing consistent high-quality results while developing positive relationships with entire greens team.

The Equipment Manager will work independently or in conjunction with the assistant superintendents, and assistant equipment manager in repairing and maintenance of various battery, gasoline and diesel-powered golf course maintenance equipment. The Equipment Manager oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all golf equipment and assets. 

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Inspect, diagnose, adjust and repair mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment on a regular basis as well as engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment
  • Communicate any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Director of Agronomy and/or assistant superintendents
  • Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work
  • Set up and modify new equipment, as needed
  • Keep maintenance equipment fueled, oiled and inspected; and perform related tasks, as required
  • Maintain records of parts and labor
  • Managing orders for parts and supplies
  • Ensure all equipment maintenance facility and all appropriate areas are clean, organized, and provide a safe working environment for all staff
  • Establish and maintain proper parts inventory levels
  • Provide assistance in training the golf course maintenance staff in the proper use of equipment
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and is in safe working conditions at all times
  • Adherence to the proper recycling and/or disposal of various oils, compounds and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.)

Experience Requirements

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Golf Maintenance Equipment Management experience required
  • Working knowledge of general operation of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment and engines
  • Proper methods of servicing golf course equipment
  • Repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety procedures of the profession
  • Proficiency in computer use; knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications with ability to build, implement, and document comprehensive preventative equipment management program
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written direction
  • Mechanical ability and ability to use common mechanical tools
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and the public
  • Valid driver’s license required; Commercial Driver’s Licensed (CDL) preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Equipment Management Certification Program (EMCP) or Certified Turf Equipment Management (CTEM) Certification, preferred but not required

Special Requirements

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to move heavy objects (approximately 50+ pounds)
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment
  • Ability to fabricate necessary items for equipment and equipment maneuverability
  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep maintenance records
