Golf Course Superintendent
The Des Moines Golf & Country Club is a prominent golf and country club located in West Des Moines, Iowa. It is known for its high-quality golf courses, elegant amenities, and rich history in the local community. The Des Moines Golf & Country Club was founded in 1897 and has since grown into one of the premier golf and social clubs in the region. The Club was established to provide a private, upscale environment for golf enthusiasts and their families. The Club is renowned for its two-championship Pete Dye designed golf courses, the South Course and North Course, each with its own unique and demanding layouts.
The North Course Superintendent works in conjunction with the South Course Superintendent to aid the Director of Grounds in the leadership and execution of work schedules and maintenance programs of 36 golf holes, two practice facilities, and clubhouse grounds.
We are seeking a detail-oriented individual with a passion for golf course management and a proven track record of leadership in a similar role. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a deep understanding of turfgrass management, and the ability to motivate and inspire a large team to achieve excellence.
This position is given the flexibility and empowerment to make their own decisions and implement chemical and cultural practices they see fit.
Our team consists of 15 full-time year round employees with 40-45 seasonal staff members working March through November. We are seeking an individual that will have a positive impact to the culture and assist mentoring our younger turf managers and staff.
Educational Requirements
2 Year Associates degree is preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Proven experience as a Assistant Superintendent or Golf Course Superintendent with aspirations to advance their career.
- In-depth knowledge of turfgrass management and golf course maintenance practices
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to develop and implement maintenance programs
- Experience managing a large team of workers
- Ability to communicate with Hispanic speaking team members preferred
- Familiarity with irrigation systems, equipment maintenance, and pest control methods
- Passion for the game of golf and dedication to maintaining high course standards
Special Requirements
- Ability to obtain Iowa pesticide applicator license within 60 days.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Driver's license
