          Golf Course Mechanic/Equipment Manager 

History:

Located in Toledo, Ohio, the prestigious Inverness Club has cemented its place in professional golf history. With a rich history of hosting major tour events including the 1920, 1931, 1957 and 1979 U.S. Opens as well as the 1986, 1993 PGA Championship and 2003 and 2011 U.S. Senior Open the Inverness Club is highly dedicated to providing the most elite playing surfaces possible for the world’s best players.  Along with these major championships in the past, the club has more recently hosted the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur, 2020 LPGA Drive-On Championship and the 2021 Solheim Cup. In the future, the Inverness Club will be hosting the 2027 U.S. Women’s Open, and the 2029 Men’s U.S. Amateur.

Originally purchased and designed in 1903, the Inverness Club purchased a unique undulating plot of land. The club hired Donald Ross in 1916 to reconstruct a championship caliber golf course. In 2017, the Inverness Club hired renowned golf course architect Andrew Green to restore the course to its Donald Ross design. The first phase of the Restoration was completed in 2018 with the last phase being completed in 2024, along with the installation of a New Rainbird irrigation System.  

Job Description:

The position entails maintaining and repairing all golf course equipment. Our current fleet includes mowers, tractors, sprayers, and utility vehicles from Toro, John Deere and Jacobsen.  We currently have a Package Deal with John Deere,  in 2026/2027 we will be looking to enter into a new package deal. In the past ten years, the maintenance facility received a face-lift and was completely reorganized. The heated shop area is fully furnished with all necessary tools to maintain and repair all equipment to the highest of levels. Because Inverness Club is a top 100 course, we are apart of the Top 100 Program with Bernhard – this enables us to receive brand new grinders every two years - insuring we have the best tools to provide exceptional conditions. In addition to the main shop, we have a parts room for controlled inventory, and a mechanics office for record-keeping and ordering. The ideal candidate will be required to work weekends during the growing season.

Responsibilities:

·         Willingness to improve upon the preventative maintenance programs currently in place.

·         Communicate with Golf Course Superintendents daily to ensure proper setup of equipment and make management aware of all equipment issues.

·         Working knowledge of all equipment, with ability to train the staff in safe and proper operation.

·         Responsible for checking mowers daily to ensure consistency and quality.

·         Qualified applicants must be able to diagnose and make repairs in the field.

·         Accountable for repair and sharpening of all reel and rotary mowing equipment.

·         Responsible for ordering/receiving parts, tracking inventory, maintaining equipment repair records, use of computer software programs and staying within budget.

·         Oversee and track delivery of fuel purchases.

·         Maintain a safe, organized and clean shop/work area and equipment storage areas.

Experience Requirements:

·         Working knowledge of turf equipment, daily setup, adjustments, grinding, repair and maintenance of golf course equipment.

·         Experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines – large and small.

·         Ability to troubleshoot issues with electrical and hydraulic systems.

·         Able to stay within monthly budgetary restraints.

·         Will be directly responsible for the assistant mechanic.
