Golf Course Superintendent
Boca Lago Golf & Country Club is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) that is successfully managing warm season grasses at the highest level. The GCS will be a strong, energetic, communicative, detail-oriented team leader with a passion for the game of golf and providing premier golfing and landscape conditions. Boca Lago Golf & Country Club boasts a magnificent 27-hole golf course and grounds which is the focal point of the community. Originally designed by industry-renowned Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, Boca Lago Golf & Country Club recently completed an $8 million redesign of our three nine-hole courses under the direction of award-winning golf course architect Jan Bel Jan.
Elevating our course grounds experience to now be among the premier golf clubs in Palm Beach County, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) recognized Boca Lago Golf & Country Club with its "Best New Course Design" Award (2018). Continuing to enhance the golfer experience, we are now focusing on the conservation and restoration of the 21 natural preserve habitats that line our 27 holes of championship golf.
The redesign incorporated the best elements of the original course design with a revitalized approach to strategy and playability from each tee. There are now multiple choices of how to play each hole, with the lakes and tree-lined fairways still playing a pivotal role in the character of all three nines.
The redevelopment of the South, East, and West Courses included redesigned greens, repositioned and recontoured bunkers in the fairways and around greens, as well as reshaped and rearranged teeing grounds amidst more than 50 acres of shimmering lakes.
Our Golf Academy-level practice facility has been expanded to include more full-swing space on the driving range (that can accommodate a field of 20 golfers at the same time), three practice putting greens, a dedicated short-game area, and two practice holes that can be played in multiple ways.
The golf course offers five sets of tees, with slope ratings from 110 to 142 to ensure a fun experience for players of all ages and abilities. Headed by award-winning PGA pros, Boca Lago Golf & Country Club offers full-service instructional programming and custom golf club fitting.
Our golf club and its members are also committed to maintenance practices that are friendly to the environment. The grounds are abundant with flora, fauna, wildlife and kept in top condition.
The GCS will lead and manage his/her department to ensure superb golfing conditions throughout the golfing season. He/She is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Club’s golf course and golf course landscaping. Frequent, open, and transparent communication with the Managing Director of Golf, is required. The GCS is expected to lead the golf course maintenance team as well as providing information, recommendations, and leadership to provide superior golfing conditions. In addition, the GCS will provide creative leadership and foster a culture of continuing education and development of future turf professionals. The GCS must have a natural style of “sincere engagement” with members and staff along with a love of the game of golf and a passion for surpassing membership course conditioning expectations.
INITIAL AREAS OF FOCUS Evaluate the course conditions and continue the action plan for the maintenance program currently in place, Improve weak areas on greens Review Standard Operating Procedures Review soil tests and necessary nutritional inputs to all areas Raise level of detailing on the course Perform inventory of all course maintenance supplies, chemicals, equipment, etc.
