2nd Assistant Superintendent

Reports To: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent

Club Renaissance is a semi-private golf facility located on the west coast of Florida. In close proximity to the Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Riverview, Ruskin and Brandon areas. We're seeking an experienced and passionate 2nd Assistant Superintendent for our agronomy team.

Some Weekends & Holidays required

You will assist in managing the maintenance of all aspects of the golf course including the surrounding grounds. Also assist with the management of the turf employees which may include hiring, training, safety, employee supervision and scheduling. Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. Must know Golf Course routine maintenance, equipment operation, golf course setup, irrigation repair, and chemical application knowledge.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Collaborating with Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent on the daily condition of the golf course.
  • Work within turf staff policy both internally and at the management level.
  • Practice and enforce all aspects of Golf Course Maintenance and Health & Safety Policy Manuals.
  • Help train staff on machinery, including safety procedures.
  • Maintain buildings, equipment, and property in a professional manner.
  • Be able to diagnose, repair and maintain the irrigation system.
  • Be able to calibrate, apply and record fertilizer and pesticides.
  • Be able to set up the golf course for play.      
  • Daily water management of Greens, Tees, and Fairway.      
  • Basic equipment repair knowledge.
  • Effective communication with staff, members, and other management.
  • Eye for detail.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years formal education, degree, or diploma in turf grass management or in process of obtaining a designation or at least two years’ experience working golf course.
  • Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicators License within 90 days of employment.
  • Approach responsibilities in an organized and energetic manner.
  • Possesses good organizational skills.
  • Must possess logical and scientific thinking to solve problems.
  • Ability to carry out and communicate to others detailed, written or verbal instructions, as well as to retrieve information from technical courses.
  • Ability to visually inspect golf course conditions and report findings.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Follows health and safety rules according to policy.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Physical Factors:

  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor.  May be required to work in an environment that includes such activities as bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.  May need to lift up to 80 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Most of the time may be outdoors exposed to such elements as heat, rain, wind, cold.

Educational Requirements
