Assistant-in-Training

Full-time

·     Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents performs pesticide applications on golf course properties.

·     Inspect and repair any noted deficiencies in the irrigation system.

·    AIT is responsible for appropriately applying all chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers associated with grounds and golf course maintenance, as well as the management of irrigation systems and the repair of said systems

·         Responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with MSDS's and pesticide labels; responsible for compiling reports of pesticide usage (spray cards).

·         Maintains application equipment chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations.

·         Perform safe mechanical operation and calibration of application equipment.

·         Must be able to safely operate a golf cart.

·         Inspect all areas of property to determine pesticide and fertilizer needs.

·         Apply pesticides and fertilizers as appropriate to maintain proper condition of golf course and grounds.

·         Implement Integrated Pest Management practices.

·         Perform other duties and/or tasks as directed by Management.

Educational Requirements

·         High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

·         Must have a Florida Commercial Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide License or obtain one within 90 days of start.

·         The working knowledge of application equipment and calibration techniques; knowledge of chemicals; knowledge of insects; turf diseases; grasses and weeds.

·         Ability to follow oral and written directions.

·         Minimum 1 year previous spray technician or irrigation technician on golf courses preferred.

·         Must be able to lift up to 75lbs.

·         Knowledgeable in the safe mechanical operation and calibration of application equipment.

·         Ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with employees, management and members.

·         Must be a detail-oriented individual and possess time management skills.

·         Required balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, grasping, crouching, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting above the waist, bending at waist, repetitive hand and arm motion.

·         Requires walking primarily on varied levels of surface for periodic periods throughout the day.

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts.

·         The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid outside weather conditions.

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with chemicals and pesticides. Requires the use of personal protective equipment.

·         Reaching with hands and arms above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required throughout the workday.

·         Proper lifting techniques required.  Includes lifting/carrying up to 75lbs.
