Grounds Supervisor/Manager

Sports Field Management LLC is in search of its next Head Baseball Groundskeeper at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. This candidate will be expected to fulfill the SFM mission statement for creating and maintaining the finest fields in the sports turf industry with a passion for value, commitment and integrity. The candidate is expected to be a highly motivated self-starter that is able to adapt to the ever-changing environment of college athletics. This role requires a highly motivated, self-starting professional who can adapt to the fast-paced and ever-changing environment of college athletics.

Position Overview

The Head Baseball Groundskeeper position is responsible for all things on the game field and practice field used by Florida Atlantic University Baseball. This includes all game and practice preparation on a daily basis, as well as general turfgrass maintenance, clay work and any other duties assigned by the Director of Athletic Grounds or Assistant Director of Athletic Grounds. This position will also be the primary contact for the FAU Baseball coaching staff for all field-related items. On top of baseball responsibilities, this position may also be involved with other sports and events on campus.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day baseball field maintenance activities
  • Perform clay work, including pitcher’s mound, home plate, and infield dirt maintenance
  • Conduct turfgrass care such as mowing, fertilizing, watering, spraying, and cultural practices
  • Prepare and line fields for games and events
  • Operate equipment such as utility vehicles, golf carts, mowers, bunker rakes, tractors, blowers, trimmers, and edgers
  • Assist with other fields and sporting events as assigned

Educational Requirements

  • 2- or 4-yr Turfgrass Management or related degree preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Professional, self-motivated team player able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • 2 years of groundskeeping experience preferred (baseball-specific experience a plus, but not required)
  • Knowledge of NCAA field and game standards preferred
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to obtain a Florida Commercial Pesticide License within 6 months of hire

Job Benefits

  • Salary: $50,000–$60,000, based on experience
  • $2,000 salary increase upon completion of Florida Spray Applicator License
  • Additional pay for each sporting event worked
  • End-of-year performance bonus
  • Golfing privileges
