Wykagyl Country Club, located in New Rochelle, NY, is a historic 18-hole private club with a rich tradition of championship golf. Founded in 1898 and redesigned by Donald Ross and A.W. Tillinghast, the course sits on 150 acres of rolling terrain and delivers a challenging, timeless layout. The membership expects course conditioning to be among the very best in the Met Section, and the club is committed to innovative agronomic practices to meet those expectations.
Position Summary
The 2nd Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, and the turf management team to execute daily operations, agronomic programs, and course improvement projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to advance their career while gaining hands-on experience in all facets of high-level golf course management at one of the premier clubs in the region.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and supervising daily golf course maintenance activities.
- Lead small crews in executing cultural practices, chemical/fertilizer applications, and irrigation repairs.
- Monitor turf conditions and communicate observations to senior staff.
- Operate and train staff on mowing equipment, utility vehicles, and specialized turf machinery.
- Participate in course setup for daily play and special events.
- Aid in record keeping for chemical/fertilizer usage, irrigation logs, and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to club standards.
Educational Requirements
2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Experience Requirements
1–2 seasons of prior golf course maintenance experience, preferably at a high-end private club.
New York State Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a passion for the turf industry.
Ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Effective communication and leadership skills.
