Position: Full-Time – Salary Position
 

About Us:

Edgewood Country Club is a private 18 hole golf facility designed by legendary golf course architect, George Cobb.  Edgewood Country Club has hosted four West Virginia Opens (1998, 2004, 2012, and 2024) as well as various United States Open Local qualifiers.  Located in Sissonville, West Virginia, our course is known for its challenging layout and perfectly manicured bent grass greens.

 

Position Overview:

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and improvement of the golf course and its grounds. This role involves overseeing day-to-day golf maintenance operations, managing staff, implementing agronomic practices, and ensuring the course consistently meets the standards set forth by the club’s membership.

 

Key Responsibilities:

-Manage the maintenance and care of the golf course, including bent grass greens, Bent/Rye tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaping.

-Prepares and maintains the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.

-Develop and implement agronomic programs for turf grass health, pest control, irrigation, and water management.

-Supervise a team of maintenance staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.

-Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly maintained.

-Reconciles and provides timely coding of all invoices and payroll.

-Create and manage budgets for maintenance operations, ensuring cost control and efficient use of resources.

-Collaborate with the General Manager/Golf Committee/ Golf Professional to coordinate course maintenance around tournament schedules, events, and peak play times.

-Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water use and adherence to environmental regulations.

-Conduct regular inspections to identify areas for improvement in turf quality, drainage, and aesthetics.

-Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety protocols, and club policies.

-Build and maintain strong relationships with members and guests, ensuring their experience is top-notch.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

-Graduate of 2 or 4-year Turf Management program (Preferred)

-Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a superintendent, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

-Possesses or able to obtain West Virginia Pesticide License.

-Extensive knowledge of golf course maintenance, including turf grass science, irrigation systems, pest management, and equipment operation.

-Proven leadership and team management skills.

-Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

-Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure during peak seasons.

-Experience with budgeting, inventory management, and cost control.

-Certification from a professional turf grass association (such as GCSAA) is preferred.

-Valid driver’s license and ability to operate machinery.
