The golf course mechanic reports to the golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to include repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The golf course mechanic properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent.
- Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including, diesel-, electric-, and gasoline-powered vehicles, trucks, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work.
- Repairs and adjusts cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment.
- Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
- Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
- Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment.
- Spot checks equipment for performance on the course frequently makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course.
- Oversees the shop maintenance area.
- Detects, determines the cause(s) of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, corrects the cause(s) of the problems, and performs related repairs as necessary.
Educational Requirements
Certification in mechanics, small engine repair or other mechanical certifications preferred
Experience Requirements
3 or more years of experience as a golf course mechanic
Experience with repairs and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines
Experience with operation and repair of manual transmissions, drive trains, brakes, suspensions, steering
Experience with hydraulic operations and repairs related to pumps, controls and transmission devices
