Equipment/Shop Manager

The Grounds Crew at Maketewah Country Club is looking for strong-willed, motivated individuals to join our team. Currently, we are looking to fill our Equipment Manager position. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and management of all equipment within the agronomy department. We pride ourselves on providing championship-level playing conditions to our Members and guests on a daily basis. To do this, we need a strong group with a team-based mindset.

Known as one of the longest-standing United States Open qualifying courses, Maketewah is a true test of golf. Now also hosting the LPGA Queen City Classic. Minutes from downtown Cincinnati, hand-crafted by Donald Ross, MCC is full of character and speaks to Ohio Valley’s natural beauty.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • An understanding of the game of golf is preferred, but not necessary.

  • Toro Flex21/1000/1200/1021 hand units
  • Toro 3320 hybrid triflexes
  • Salsco rollers
  • Toro md(12), hdx, and JD progator utility vehicles
  • Toro 3550-D fairway mowers
  • Toro 4500-D and 3500-D Rough mowers
  • Toro Propass 200 topdresser
  • Toro 5800/1750 and JD 2020 sprayers
  • Skid steer, Kubota/JD tractors, Toro 648’s, Toro 880, Ventrac, Shockwave, Vredo, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Shop comes with a lift, Bernhard grinders, lift table, hoist, parts storage, stocked tool chest, and more.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Checks quality of cut on every cutting unit being used in the morning.
  • Trains operators on the proper use of the equipment in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks to identify repairs necessary for proper operation of all equipment.
  • Completes repairs and routine preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Grind reels as needed.
  • Operation of all equipment.
  • Opportunity to hire, train, and develop assistant mechanics.
  • Maintains the records associated with the maintenance and repair of the equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Perform scheduled routine preventive maintenance on all equipment.
  • Along with assistant mechanics, check all reel mowers after every use to ensure proper quality and height of cut.
  • Communicate with the Superintendent regarding equipment or shop issues and problems.

Experience Requirements

3-5 years as an Assistant Equipment Technician, Equipment Technician, or Equipment Manager

Special Requirements

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Prolonged periods standing and walking.

Able to bend, crouch, stretch, push, pull and move as needed.

Must be able to visually inspect machinery, materials, and course quality.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Able to effectively communicate with others.

Able to operate a computer to organize record-keeping and find parts/vendors/etc.

Frequent exposure to elevated noise levels when near or while operating equipment.
