Equipment/Shop Manager

White Lake Golf Club is an 18 hole private golf course nestled between White Lake and Lake Michigan in Whitehall, MI. The course was built in 1916 and designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Bendelow. The club is the only member owned facility in the area and strives to give its membership the highest quality playing conditions it has to offer. White Lake is in an ongoing course and irrigation renovation that began in 2021 and has future plans to complete its overhaul of the course and driving range facility in the coming seasons.

Summary And Essential Function

The Equipment Manager reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and Lead Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, overseeing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all club-owned pieces of equipment. This individual is responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and organized maintenance facilities and detailed service records for each piece of equipment. The Equipment Manager ensures each piece of equipment is put away in working order, adjusted and ready for the next use. They are an integral part of the training program for the entire Maintenance Team, with respect to proper equipment use and required preventative maintenance and safety checks, both before and after use of any equipment.

Experience Requirements

Golf Course experience preferred but not mandatory including reel and bed knife grinding. Candidate must also have a working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses and be skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools plus a working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment. The candidate must have knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Experienced automotive mechanics are also encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

Some duties include inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing all golf course maintenance equipment as well as managing a complete preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, purchases parts and replacement supplies. Candidate will also oversee the shop area maintenance, perform routine welding, torching and fabricating. Other duties performed will be reel and bed knife grinding, assisting in irrigation and pump house repairs, monitoring gas and diesel levels in fuel tanks and performing all aspects of golf course maintenance as directed by the superintendent. The candidate must have the ability to move & lift heavy objects and work in a variety of weather conditions. Should be able to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work as well as the ability to communicate effectively and keep complete & accurate business records. Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is a must. Must be available to work weekends and holidays if needed and be available to work a 40+-hours/week, 52 weeks per year.

Job Benefits

A position with a yearly pay range of $50,000-$60,000. The average workweek is 43 hours throughout the golf season and 32 - 40 hours during the winter months ( Dec-Feb). Benefits include uniforms, golf privileges, paid vacation and sick time.
