Purpose of Position: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and presentation of the golf course, ensuring it meets exceptional playing conditions year-round. This position oversees the maintenance staff, develops maintenance schedules, manages budgets, and ensures compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Course Maintenance and Agronomy:
- Plan and implement all maintenance activities for the golf course, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and aeration.
- Monitor and maintain turf health, focusing on greens, tees, fairways, and roughs to provide optimal playing conditions.
- Inspect the course regularly to identify and address any maintenance issues, including drainage and irrigation system repairs.
- Develop and execute agronomic strategies to maintain the health and aesthetics of the golf course.
Staff Supervision and Training:
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage the golf course maintenance team.
- Schedule and delegate daily tasks to ensure efficient operations.
- Provide ongoing training on equipment operation, safety protocols, and maintenance techniques.
- Conduct performance reviews and foster a positive, collaborative team environment.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, including labor, materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of expenses, chemical applications, and equipment maintenance.
- Research and recommend equipment purchases, upgrades, or rentals as needed.
Environmental and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to chemical applications, water usage, and environmental practices.
- Oversee proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Promote safe work practices and conduct regular safety training.
Course Improvement Projects:
- Plan and execute course renovation and improvement projects in collaboration with management and external contractors.
- Recommend strategies for enhancing course playability and aesthetics.
- Stay current with industry trends and technology to implement innovative practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Tolerance for outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Capability to walk, stand, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and work in confined spaces as needed for maintenance tasks.
- Manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and machinery effectively.
Work Schedule:
- Primarily Monday through Friday, with early mornings and occasional weekends or holidays based on weather conditions, tournaments, or emergencies.

Educational Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field (preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil management, irrigation systems, and pest control.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining golf course equipment and machinery.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) designation or willingness to obtain it is a plus.
- Valid pesticide applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
