Golf Course Superintendent
Wendell Country Club is seeking an experienced, proactive Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of turf and facility agronomy at Wendell Country Club. The position requires an agronomic professional with experience working in the Southeast’s climate. The ideal candidate will combine strong agronomic knowledge with leadership, fiscal management, and a commitment to delivering championship playing conditions.
Basic Functions
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance and management of the golf course grounds, clubhouse surrounds, and other maintainable property. This position ensures that the course provides healthy, high-quality playing conditions and an exceptional experience for customers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain all grounds including the golf course, clubhouse surrounds, and related areas.
- Supervise all fertilizing, chemical applications, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, and trees.
- Supervise, recruit, train, and evaluate maintenance staff (year-round and seasonal), promote safety and teamwork, and create daily/weekly work plans.
- Collaborate with the General Manager to address and respond to member feedback.
- Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget for the golf course operation.

Maintain inventory and oversee repairs, maintenance, and scheduling for all golf course equipment.
- A strong background in equipment maintenance is preferred; an off-site mechanic is available for support.
- Implement and enforce a comprehensive safety program for all maintenance employees.
- Supervise all irrigation activities to ensure optimal course conditions.
- Develop and implement an annual chemical and fertilization plan.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations for pesticide/herbicide application, fertilizer use, water discharge, and environmental permits; maintain accurate spray logs and MSDS records.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in turf management, agronomy, or a related field preferred (experience may substitute for education).
- Proven knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
- Stable employment history

Required Qualifications
- Solid background in irrigation operation and repair.
- Proficiency with chemical application equipment, including mixing, applying, and managing pesticides.
- Valid pesticide license.
- Valid driver’s license.
