Turf Equipment Technician

The Turf Equipment Technician reports to the Operations Manager and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance and repair program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts, labor and costs needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The Turf Equipment Technician properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Operations Manager.  The Turf Equipment Technician’s priority is to produce quality pieces of equipment & safety for our customers and is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized service area. 


The Turf Equipment Technician will report directly to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for managing an assistant.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Working knowledge of light and heavy golf course maintenance equipment.

  • Hours will be on average of 40 +/- hours per week.  All vacation time and Holiday time off will be scheduled with the Operations Manager.

  • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.  All necessary tools will be supplied.  Inventory, maintenance & responsibility for those tools will be that of the Turf Equipment Technician.

  • Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.

  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.

  • Ability to move heavy objects.

  • Maintenance, repair and safe operation of Forklift, loading dock & equipment trailer

  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.

  • Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Experience Requirements

  • 1.    Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course equipment, both reel & rotary mowers, including, diesel, hybrid and gasoline powered mowers, sprayers, utility vehicles, aerators, bunker rakes, trenchers, sweepers, rollers and other mechanical equipment.

  • 2.     Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.

  • 3.     Analyze each piece of equipment brought in for specific issues.  Repairs will be discussed with Operations Manager prior to completing.

  • 4.     Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs or all equipment.

  • 5.     Oversees the shop area maintenance.  Ensure space is kept clean, organized and professional as it is the first impression for many of our customers.

  • 6.     Turf Equipment Technician may need to interact with customers and dealing with off-site repairs.

  • 7.     Will unload and load trucks with equipment.  This includes occasionally picking up and delivering equipment to and from customers. 

  • 8.     Prepares all equipment for sale.  Includes cleaning, detailing, crating, packaging product for delivery.

  • 9.     Regulates employees' use of equipment, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the Operations Manager.

  • Attends Sale meetings, Conferences and equipment training as required to assist in the marketing, maintenance and sales of equipment.

  • 11.   Keeping current on new techniques for maintenance and repair
