Assistant Equipment Technician
Firefly is seeking a reliable, self-motivated Assistant Mechanic/Technician to join our Golf Course Maintenance team. This position supports the Equipment Manager in maintaining and repairing all turf equipment used on the property, helping ensure daily operations run safely and efficiently.
The property is located approximately 30 miles south of downtown Nashville and approximately 15 miles south of downtown Franklin, on the east side of I-65 in Maury County. The gated entrance to the community will be on Highway 431, about 5 miles south of the new June Lake exit on I-65.
Firefly will feature a core 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole short course designed by Andrew Green, who has been critically acclaimed for his renovation of classic designs at Scioto, Congressional, Interlachen, Inverness, Oak Hill, and most recently East Lake. This will be Andrew Green’s first original design.

Position Summary
The Assistant Mechanic supports the Equipment Manager in maintaining a high-performance fleet to ensure Firefly’s agronomy team can consistently deliver elite course conditions. This role combines hands-on equipment repair, preventative maintenance, equipment setup, operator training, and accurate record keeping. The Assistant Mechanic also develops technical and leadership skills in preparation for increased responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
· Assist with diagnosis, repair, and adjustment of engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, reels, cutting units, and small equipment.
· Perform routine and preventative service work including oil changes, blade sharpening, lubrication, filter replacement, and reel grinding.
· Support mower setup and calibration to achieve cut quality standards consistent with firm and fast conditioning expectations.
Preventative Maintenance & Shop Support
· Participate in scheduled maintenance programs and routine fleet inspections.
· Maintain organization of the maintenance shop, inventory storage, tool systems, and safety compliance standards.
· Assist with parts ordering, inventory tracking, and vendor relationships.
Calibration, Setup & Reel Work
· Assist with reel grinding, bedknife installation, height-of-cut adjustments, quality assurance checks, and setup benchmarking.
· Learn, maintain, and update cutting unit records for alignment, sharpening intervals, and setup history.
Operator Support & Training
· Assist in training equipment operators on safe use, daily inspection routines, and post-operational cleaning standards.
· Reinforce accountability across the team by identifying and addressing improper equipment use, maintenance concerns, and unsafe conditions.
Documentation & Communication
· Assist with fleet record keeping, service logs, maintenance schedules, and compliance reporting.
· Communicate equipment condition, maintenance needs, and repair priorities with the Equipment Manager and leadership team.
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements
Qualifications
- Prior mechanical experience required (turf equipment, small engines, automotive, diesel, or related fields)
- Ability to safely operate and repair golf course equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and follow instructions.
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with small engines, diesel systems, electrical troubleshooting, or welding/fabrication.
- Desire to advance into full Equipment Manager roles over time.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Special Requirements
- Applicant must have the ability to work rotating weekends
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Must have a positive, can-do attitude and be flexible throughout the various phases of course/turf care facility construction
