Job Title: Golf Course Equipment Technician / Mechanic

 

Department: Grounds & Maintenance

 

Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent

 

 

Job Summary:

 

The Golf Course Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all golf course equipment and tools. This includes mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, small engines, and other turf maintenance machinery. The technician ensures that all equipment is in excellent working condition to support daily course operations and optimal playing conditions.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

    •    Perform routine maintenance on all golf course equipment, including oil changes, blade sharpening, belt replacement, tire repair, and lubrication.

    •    Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on equipment and small engines.

    •    Maintain cutting units for greens, tees, and fairways to ensure quality of cut and performance.

    •    Inspect, adjust, and calibrate equipment for optimal operation and safety.

 

Recordkeeping & Inventory

    •    Maintain accurate service and repair records for all equipment.

    •    Track parts, tools, and supply inventory; order replacement parts and materials as needed.

    •    Maintain an organized, clean, and safe maintenance facility.

 

Collaboration & Support

    •    Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff to schedule equipment use and repairs.

    •    Train staff on the safe and proper use of equipment.

    •    Assist with setup, adjustment, and inspection of equipment before tournaments or major events.

 

Preventive Maintenance & Safety

    •    Develop and follow a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment.

    •    Inspect equipment daily for proper operation and safety compliance.

    •    Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and environmental regulations.

 

 

Qualifications:

    •    High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in mechanics preferred.

    •    Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in small engine repair, diesel, or automotive mechanics (golf course or turf equipment experience a plus).

    •    Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.

    •    Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical drawings.

    •    Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.

    •    Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

 

 

Skills & Abilities:

    •    Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

    •    Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

    •    Effective communication with supervisors and staff.

    •    Commitment to safety and equipment care standards.

 

 

Physical Requirements:

    •    Ability to lift, move, and handle objects up to 50 lbs.

    •    Work in indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in extreme weather.

    •    Stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods while performing repairs.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

    •    Experience with brands such as Toro, John Deere  

    •    Knowledge of reel grinding and mower setup for turf maintenance.

    •    Certification in small engine or equipment maintenance.
