Turf Equipment Technician

Cherokee Valley Golf Club is seeking a Full Time Turf Equipment Technician/Mechanic.  Position will be responsible for maintaining & repairing all golf course equipment including, but not limited to, mowers, tractors, golf carts etc.  Duties to include routine maintenance, diagnosing & fixing mechanical issues, sharpening & grinding blades/reels, managing parts inventory, and ensuring equipment is safe for operation.

Position reports directly to the Head Superintendent

Salary commensurate with prior experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of preventive maintenance programs for all equipment on inventory in the golf maintenance operation (adjusting/sharpening reels, changing oil, replacing hoses, etc.)
  • As directed, repair and maintains all golf maintenance equipment. 
  • Maintain the mechanics work area and company tools in a clean, well-organized, safe and secure manner. 
  • Assist with maintaining adequate inventory levels of petroleum products, replacement parts, and shop supplies as established by the Golf Course Superintendent. 
  • Advise supervisor on capital equipment addition or replacement needs. 
  • Be responsible for all required documentation/logs relating to equipment repairs and purchasing replacement parts as directed. 
  • Assist in training grounds staff on proper and safe operation of maintenance equipment. 

Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in golf course mechanics experience or small engine repairs 
  • Strong knowledge of gas & diesel engines
  • Understanding of electrical & mechanical systems including pumps & sprayers used for course maintenance.
  • High school diploma, GED. Or equivalent, preferred 
  • Must have technical and working knowledge of all equipment as well as replacement parts, supplies and other resources needed in the repair and upkeep of the equipment. 

Experience Requirements

  • Because of the fluctuating demands of the Club's operation, it may be necessary that each employee partner to perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your job, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
  • Responsible for demonstrating good teamwork.  
  • Responsible for maintaining good conduct and safe working habits while in all areas and assuring others are acting safely. 
  • Ability to perform outdoor work year-round, with possible extreme temperature variations 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally & in writing
  • Valid Drivers License
