Equipment/Shop Manager
The Equipment Manager is a key member of the Greens and Grounds team, reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all golf course maintenance equipment. The Equipment Manager develops and implements preventive maintenance programs, manages the equipment repair budget, and ensures that all equipment supports the daily and seasonal needs of the golf course.
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma/Equivalent
- Associate’s degree or Certificate from an accredited technical school/college (or related study) highly preferred, but not required
Experience Requirements
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED: State minimum formal education level and specialization necessary. State additional professional or technical knowledge or years of experience required.
- 5+ years of work experience in mechanical repair or related field. Previous experience working with golf course/landscaping related equipment at a reputable facility preferred.
- Self-initiative, a positive attitude, ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

- Extensive knowledge in hydraulic, gas, diesel, and small engine systems.
- Working knowledge of the theory and care of reel and bed knife grinding preferred.
- Troubleshooting & diagnosing equipment failures accurately & efficiently.
- Capital Equipment & Operating Budget planning, budgeting, & tracking.
- Skills in fabrication, metalwork, & welding highly preferred.
- Experience operating heavy equipment safely & proficiently. Experience with operating golf course & landscaping specific equipment preferred.
- Demonstrated strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Requires valid driver’s license.
Special Requirements
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and manage the entire equipment maintenance shop operation
- Maintain the entire equipment fleet, including cutting units, utility vehicles, and heavy equipment, to meet high golf course performance standards
- Develop and implement scheduled preventive maintenance and repair programs for all turf equipment, tools, and vehicle
- Perform daily mower setup and adjustments, especially for reel and rotary units
- Diagnose and repair equipment issues efficiently and accurately
- Order and purchase parts, tools, and supplies within the approved annual operating budget
- Organize and maintain a detailed inventory of all equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Track and manage all repair and maintenance activities with accurate recordkeeping
- Assist the GCS with planning and tracking annual capital and operating equipment budgets
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment in compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations
- Train Greens staff on safe and proper operation of all equipment
- Attend continuing education and training programs as needed
- Early morning hours; occasional long days during peak season, must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods, exposure to outdoor elements (heat, cold, rain, etc.), weekend and holiday availability required during peak golf season, occasional on-course maintenance or emergency repair work may be needed.
