Golf Course Superintendent
Grand Elk Golf Club in Granby, Colorado is seeking applicants for our open Golf Course Superintendent position. The course is at 8,000 feet and we are looking for an individual with high mountain experience. The irrigation system is a combination of Rain Bird heads, Toro Smart controllers and Lynx software. A Toro equipment package has been purchased and set for delivery including three 5410 fairway units, two Triflexes, an HDX Workman, two Buffalo Blowers, 5800 sprayer, and a 4500 rough unit. Grand Elk is managed by Troon Golf.

Reports to: General Manager/Director of Golf
General Purpose: Oversees the maintenance the course and grounds and ensures that turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards.
Essential Duties:
Ø Prepares the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans.
Ø Plans, organizes directs, and performs related tasks to the timely minimization of winter turf damage including but not limited to:
o Mechanical/machine damage
o Vole damage
o Desiccation (turf loss from drying out)
o Ice damage
o Snow Mold
Ø Coordinates the aggressive spring preparations: turf cleaning, irrigation repairs, seeding, sodding, and spot fertility programs.
Ø Applies fertilizers and chemicals via spreader and sprayers with detail and care.
Ø Safely operates tracked side by side to pack, monitor, and groom the course during winter operations.
Ø Plans and directs proper winterization of the golf course including and fencing, tarping, end-of-season agronomy practices, and chemical applications.
Ø Maintains a working knowledge and provides recommendation on the agronomy programs associated with management of the specific water, soil, and turf types of the course.
Ø Operates and maintains irrigation pressure relief and reduction valves.
Ø Operates and troubleshoots ditch routes, pumps and motors associated with the golf course water delivery systems.
Ø Oversees and repairs broken water lines, heads and valves.
Ø Communicates with the Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional to discuss conditions of golf courses, maintenance plans and scheduled events.
Ø Plans, organizes and directs the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
Ø Supervises the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees and ornamental plants
Ø Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
Ø Procures supplies and materials within budgetary limitations.
Ø Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs. Prepares reports.
Ø Implements sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors, when possible.
Ø Reconciles and provides timely coding of all invoices, payroll and other required documents.
Ø Coordinates and operates machinery associated with property snow removal program.
Ø Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations.
Ø Ensures that they and all associates obtain proper training and/or licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations. Addresses directly all real or perceived environmental concerns.
Ø Ensures proper mixing, calibration, and application of all chemical/fertilizers used on the course.
Ø Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Assistant Superintendent, 2nd Assistant Superintendent, Head Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
Ø Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
Ø Regular and reliable attendance.
Ø Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
Education/Experience: Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Degree preference in agronomy/ horticulture/ plant/soil science).
Physical Demands: Regularly stands, walks and sits. Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes or smells. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds.
Environment/Noise: Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
Educational Requirements
2 year turf or related degree/certificate
Experience Requirements
Two years as an assistant superintendent
