Assistant-in-Training
General Summary:
Dedicated and motivated individual with experience assisting in the maintenance of golf course grounds and landscaping, including the course, clubhouse, and surrounding club facilities. Eager to learn and grow within the golf course maintenance industry, with a strong understanding that every role contributes to the overall quality and success of the course. Brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to excellence in all tasks.
Responsibilities and Duties:

Supervisor Responsibilities
- Willingness to learn and take charge of small crews

Primary Duties
- Performs appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Apply pesticides via sprayer and spreader
- Prepares and lays sod.
- Loads and unloads materials.
- Monitor moisture throughout golf course.
- Operates walk-behind equipment.
- Aerifies and spikes greens.
- Helps with drainage projects.
- Tree pruning.
- Rakes and blows leaves.
- Rakes bunkers.
- Participates in departmental and club training meetings.
Educational Requirements
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Willingness to learn and adapt to varied and added responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstration of cooperation, interest, and enthusiasm in support of the club’s mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives.
- Assures development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures which guide and support provisions of designated services.
- Demonstration of effective inter-disciplinary cooperation and assists with improvement in interdepartmental communications
- Perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions
- A desire to proceed in GCM as a profession.
Experience Requirements
Certification/Education and Experience:
- Very experienced in all aspects of GCM.
- Experience utilizing different application equipment, organizing and managing small teams, working independently making general decisions on delegation and direction when necessary.
- Beginning formal educational training or has completed a certificate or degree program.
Special Requirements
Working Condition:
- There is a potential for stressful situations and for long hours.
- Required to work overtime when needed often without prior notice.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
- Frequently positions self to complete assigned tasks.
