2nd Assistant Superintendent
Stone Oak Country Club is a private golf facility located in the greater Toledo, Ohio area. The 160-acre course was originally designed by S. P. Jermaine in the late 1940s as a nine-hole layout. In 1954, the course was redesigned and expanded into an 18-hole championship course by noted architect Robert Bruce Harris.
The Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists in the daily management and maintenance of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This position supports the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents in delivering exceptional playing conditions while supervising maintenance staff, ensuring safe operations, and upholding agronomic standards. The Second Assistant plays a key role in staff leadership, project execution, and maintaining the overall quality and presentation of the golf course.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily golf course maintenance operations.

Lead, train, and motivate maintenance staff to ensure efficient and high-quality work performance.

Supervise crew assignments and assist with employee evaluations, discipline, and development.

Monitor turf conditions and assist with the implementation of agronomic programs, including hand-watering practices, mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.

Assist in the calibration and safe application of fertilizers and chemicals in accordance with regulations and best practices.

Support irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repairs.

Ensure all equipment is operated safely.

Maintain accurate records related to chemical applications, weather conditions, and course maintenance activities.

Enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Assist with course setup for daily play, tournaments, and special events.

Communicate effectively with management, golf staff, and team members regarding course conditions and maintenance activities.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
Educational Requirements
Turf Certificate, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field preferred.
Experience Requirements

Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in golf course maintenance or turf management.

Knowledge of turfgrass species, cultural practices, and golf course maintenance standards.

Working knowledge of irrigation systems and equipment operation.

Pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
