Golf Course Superintendent
Looking for the next step toward becoming a Superintendent? We’re seeking a motivated Assistant / Golf Course Superintendent who’s passionate about leadership and delivering exceptional course conditions.
You will work with the Director of Course Operations to lead our course maintenance team, oversee daily operations, and use your expertise in turf management and irrigation. This position offers a clear advancement path upon the director's retirement; you will be expected to move into the Head Superintendent role.
Reports to: The Golf Course Superintendent. IT typically reports directly to the following individuals:
General Manager, Owner, Director of Golf Course Operations. In all instances, the Golf Course Superintendent IT coordinates operations with the Club Manager and Golf Professional.
Position Description: The Golf Course Superintendent IT will be entrusted with the maintenance, operations, and management of a golf course. The Golf Course Superintendent will carefully manage the maintenance inputs to the golf course while conserving and protecting natural resources. They directly influence the playing areas and landscapes with which golfers interact.
Description:
- Staff Management: Responsible for the selection, training, assignment, and assessment of the Maintenance Team, including upholding training guidelines that are in the best interest of the club and associate safety, including the creation of training and safety material.
- Safety Training: Hold safety meetings to ensure the highest level of safety for all maintenance associates.
- Turf areas: Supervise the planting, mowing, fertilizing, and maintenance of all turf, including greens, tees, and fairways. Supervises and participates in the application and
- Recording of chemical applications on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop and implement agronomic programs, such as fertilization, soil amendment schedules, and monitor turf health. Pest and disease control: Manage integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to control diseases, weeds, and insects.
- Chemical Management: Ensures proper handling and storage of all chemicals and fertilizers in accordance with label and regulatory requirements.
- Irrigation and drainage: Manages water use, track, plan, and maintains the irrigation system.
- Equipment maintenance: Ensure the proper maintenance, upkeep, and safe operation of all maintenance equipment and tools, including planning and budgeting for additional or replacement capital equipment as necessary.
- Budgeting: Manage monthly budgets and forecasts for future months, including determining large capital needs, and present these needs to Ownership and management for budgeting and approval. Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll.
- Oversees the Golf Course and landscaping at all common property areas, including pool, and racket courts.
- Snow Removal at Charter Oak and other owned properties.
- In-house tree work and supervise contractor work as needed.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by Ownership and Management.
Educational Requirements
2 or 4 year degree in turf grass management.
Experience Requirements
4 years exp as an assistant or superintendent.
Special Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules of the game of golf.
- A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem-solving and decision-making.
- Thorough knowledge of all equipment operations.
- Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and other applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety, and environmental standards, laws, and regulations).
- Participation in continuing education opportunities, such as seminars.
- Workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
- Will require current state licensing as a certified pesticide applicator.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Required to stand and walk for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag up to fifty (50) pounds if necessary. You will be working near mechanical parts.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Job Benefits
- Competitive salary: $93,000 – $110,000
