2nd Assistant Superintendent
Worthington was originally designed and built by Gordon Lewis in 1991 and was completely renovated and redesigned by Ron Garl in 2018. The 2018 renovation included a complete rebuild with a new Toro two wire irrigation system and Watertronics pumpstation. Worthington has invested several million dollar from the top golf equipment manufactures over the past 4 years with most equipment 2-4 years old. The racket sports facility is currently being surveyed and designed with a renovation planned in the next 1-2 years. The golf course maintenance facility is being renovated in phases over the next 6 years with phase one starting this year. Under direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. The Second Assistant Superintendent is responsible for daily maintenance of the golf course which includes but is not limited to the following.
- Implements general policies established by the golf course superintendent; directs their administration and execution
- Oversees maintenance of golf course and equipment used
- Secures and protects the company assets, including facilities and equipment.
- Recommends employment, supervises, trains and evaluates department personnel
- Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in the department. Works to curb absenteeism and its results. Provides necessary input for all required personnel records
- Keeps accurate application records as determined by Golf Course Superintendent
- Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities on golf course and related areas
- Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent assigns daily tasks and supervises work activities of personnel in the department
- Responsible for upkeep of pump stations and irrigation system including computer programming and scheduling
- Enforces comprehensive safety programs for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws
- Maintains course in proper playing condition. Performs other maintenance duties as determined by the Golf Course Superintendent
- Participates and contributes time to selected organizations and associations to maximum professional benefit to self and to staff. Attends conferences, workshops and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field
- Attends Committee and BOD meetings as needed to keep informed in the happenings of the Club.
- Maintains a clean, safe working environment
- Complies with and promotes all organization policies and procedures, including the Drugfree workplace policy
- Regular attendance is a requirement of this position
Educational Requirements
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (A.S.) in Agronomy or Horticulture preferred or turf certificate with previous experience as a 2nd Assistant or Intern is preferred.
- Valid Florida’s Driver’s License required
- Valid Florida Pest Applicator’s License required or ability to obtain
- Minimum 2 years golf course maintenance experience on a course

Physical/Environmental Demands:
Must be able to transgress even and uneven surfaces; walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb. Multi-limb coordination: ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing and operating equipment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs without assistance. Must be able to withstand heat, humidity, and direct sun environment for an extended period. Must be able to work in an environment with plants and grass, and plant and grass chemicals during all seasons. Must be able to work around moving equipment, operate handheld tools and equipment, and withstand vibration and noise associated with motorized and mechanical equipment.
