Head Equipment Manager – Wilmington Country Club
Founded in 1901, Wilmington Country Club will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2026. Set among the rolling hills of the Delaware Valley, our storied history has solidified Wilmington Country Club as one of the finest and most prestigious clubs in the country. Home to two world-class golf courses, Wilmington Country Club has hosted a number of USGA and National Amateur Championships. The Club hosted the PGA TOUR for the 2022 BMW Championship.
The club comprises 36 holes of golf, along with an extensive racquet program, including grass tennis courts. A renovation of the irrigation system will begin in September of 2026.
The Head Equipment Manager reports to the Director of Golf Courses and Grounds and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment inventory includes a rotating John Deere master lease program consisting of GPS sprayers, rotary and reel equipment. On-going capital equipment plans are conducted via a useful life cycle program.
The Head Equipment Manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Director of Golf Courses and Grounds. The Head Equipment Manager will direct the work assignments of the assistant equipment manager.
The Equipment Manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area. The Head Equipment Manager will have knowledge and remain in compliance with all appropriate safety and regulatory laws.
Note: The role operates on an every-other-weekend rotation during the golf season; off-season schedule is Monday–Friday.

Initial Priorities of the Position
- Assess Fleet Condition – Inspect all equipment, document condition, service records, and replacement needs.
- Establish Preventive Maintenance Schedule – Implement/refine structured program with tracking (daily, weekly, seasonal). Train staff on cleaning and basic care.
- Organize Shop & Inventory – Streamline the facility, audit parts, eliminate redundancies, ensure critical parts are stocked.
- Build Trust with the Team – Collaborate with the director of golf courses and grounds, course superintendents, assistant superintendents, and other management personnel; develop relationships with operators through training and safety practices.
- Set Standard for Quality of Cut – Calibrate mowers, sharpen reels, and ensure consistency across both courses and all grounds areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized equipment maintenance facility.
- Ensure all grounds equipment is in excellent working order.
- Conduct daily field checks to confirm proper performance.
- Conduct preventative maintenance checks as required.
- Accountability of preventive maintenance programs falls within budget on all equipment repair, including purchasing of parts and supplies.
- Manage parts inventory and maintain accurate preventive maintenance records.
- Vendor association in terms of bidding and purchase of needed material and parts.
- Responsible for oil, gasoline, diesel inventories and fuel facility.
- Assist with research and recommendation on capital equipment purchases with the Director of Golf Courses and Grounds.
- Train and support staff on safe equipment operation, cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
- Collaborate with the grounds team to achieve superior turf quality and consistent playing conditions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Positive attitude with strong work ethic, honesty, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Mechanical aptitude and prior turf equipment maintenance experience (preferred, not required).
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Compensation and Benefits
- $90,000 - $120,000, based on experience
