Turf Equipment Technician
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Turf Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and management of all golf course equipment, ensuring it operates at peak performance. This includes managing a team of technicians, maintaining a preventive maintenance schedule, and ensuring that all equipment is safe and ready for daily operations. The Turf Equipment Manager plays a critical role in supporting the course's overall agronomic operations by ensuring that mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and other specialized equipment are available and function efficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
Oversee the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment, including reel mowers, rotary mowers, aerators, sprayers, utility vehicles, and other machinery.
· Preventative Maintenance Program:
Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule to ensure equipment longevity and performance. Perform routine checks, tune-ups, and adjustments.
· Team Leadership:
Supervise, train, and schedule a team of turf equipment technicians, ensuring efficient workflows, task prioritization, and quality control in all equipment maintenance and repairs.
· Budget Management:
Manage the equipment maintenance budget, including tracking expenses, purchasing parts, and negotiate with vendors to optimize costs.
· Inventory Management:
Maintain an accurate inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment. Ensure that critical parts and tools are always on hand to minimize equipment downtime.
· Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed records of all repairs, maintenance schedules, parts inventories, and equipment performance. Track equipment hours and service intervals to schedule timely service.
· Mower Blade/Reel Maintenance:
Manage the sharpening and adjustment of all reel mower blades, ensuring the highest standard of cut for greens, fairways, and roughs.
· Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all equipment adheres to safety standards and that technicians follow safety protocols. Implement any required modifications to meet local, state, and federal regulations.
· Equipment Performance Monitoring:
Monitor the performance of all equipment and conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues before they impact operations. Communicate equipment status with the Golf Course Superintendent and make recommendations for upgrades or replacements.
· Training & Development:
Provide ongoing training for equipment operators and technicians on proper equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
· Environmental Compliance:
Ensure all work performed adheres to environmental regulations, particularly regarding the safe disposal of oil, fuels, and other hazardous materials.
Educational Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent (required); a degree or certification in mechanics, turf equipment management, or a related field is preferred.

· Extensive knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and reel mower technology.
· Experience with preventive maintenance programs and equipment diagnostics.
· Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
· Knowledge of turfgrass management practices and their relationship to equipment performance.
· Proficient in budgeting and expense tracking.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills.
· Valid driver’s license.
Experience Requirements
10 + years of experience in turf equipment maintenance, with at least 3 years in management or supervisory role.
