About the Club
Founded in 1916, Orchard Park Country Club is a private, member-owned club located just south of Buffalo, New York. The club features an 18-hole Walter Travis inspired golf course, robust golf and social programming, and a strong commitment to maintaining high agronomic standards. Orchard Park is currently in the process of a Golf Course Masterplan, that looks to recapture the Travis design style. Orchard Park recently engaged Jim Nagle and Nagle Design works for an all-comprehensive Golf Course Masterplan, as to bring back the Travis charisma to the course.
Position Overview
Orchard Park Country Club is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our turf management team. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Director of Grounds in overseeing all aspects of golf course maintenance, daily operations, crew leadership, and long-range course improvement projects.
Educational Requirements
· Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· Minimum 2–3 years of golf course maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred.
· NYS pesticide applicator’s license (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
· Strong knowledge of turf management practices and irrigation systems.
· Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Experience Requirements
· Assist in planning and executing daily maintenance operations including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, chemical applications, and cultural practices.
· Supervise, train, and motivate the grounds crew to ensure quality and efficiency.
· Monitor course conditions and communicate effectively with the Superintendent and staff regarding turf health, playability, and weather impacts.
· Calibrate and apply fertilizers and pesticides responsibly, maintaining accurate records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
· Participate in irrigation system maintenance, scheduling, and troubleshooting.
· Help manage recordkeeping, budgeting input, and equipment care.
· Support planning and implementation of course improvement projects, tree management, and landscape enhancements.
· Assist in the planning and execution of the GCMP.
· Lead the crew during the Master Plan phase of the project in harmony with the Assistant currently on Property.
· Willingness to jump into any duty needed on the course.
· Detail oriented, with the daily operation as well as GCMP grow in.
