2nd Assistant Superintendent
Summary:
Woodside Club is a well-established private 18-hole Club located just outside of New York City on Long Islands beautiful North Shore. We are currently seeking a motivated, dedicated, individual to join our team as a Second Assistant Superintendent. This will be a tremendous opportunity for a committed aspiring turf professional that is looking to grow their career in the Metro NY area. This position reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will work closely with the Sr Assistant Superintendent to provide exceptional playing conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and golf course construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement.
• Operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
• Knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf.
• Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists the Golf Course Superintendent with daily course maintenance.
• Operates sprayers for pesticide spraying and mixing of chemicals.
• Monitor turf health and scout for disease, pests, and weeds.
• Performs daily hand watering of the golf course and property.
• Irrigation system monitoring and repair such as sprinkler heads, valves, and pipes on property.
• Daily golf course set up.
• Trains staff to perform course maintenance activities.
• Fertilizer/pesticide applications and record keeping.
• Performs safety orientation and ongoing safety training for all department staff.
• Supervises Maintenance Shop and runs operations in the absence of Golf Course Superintendent.
• Promotes a team atmosphere work environment.
• Assist shop Equipment Technician/mechanic when needed.

• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, Internet software.
· Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Acquire Pesticide Technician/Applicator’s certification within 60 days of hire.
• Valid driver’s license.
· Physical Demands:
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
Educational Requirements
• High School Diploma required.
• Two/four-year degree/certificate in turfgrass management or horticulture preferred but not required.
• Recent graduates with strong internship, and or AIT experience will be considered.
Experience Requirements
• Two years of experience in the maintenance, operation, or management of a golf course and related facilities and equipment.
• Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and golf course construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement.
· Language Skills:
• Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the public.
• Ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus but not required.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work weekends and holidays in season as well as during snow events.
