Club Description

Haystack is a semi-private 18-hole golf course located in Wilmington Vermont. Designed by Desmond Muirhead in 1972, Haystack is a Mountain Course known best for its breathtaking scenery and exceptional greens. The Course hosted the 2024 and 2025 Vermont Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships and is scheduled to continue to host amateur events in the upcoming years, including the 2026 Vermont Women’s Amateur Championship and 2027 Vermont Women’s Senior Amateur Championship.  The Golf course facilities include a driving range, practice greens, a full pro shop and full-service restaurant.

Job Duties

·         Lead daily golf course grounds operations, ensuring high standards of turf quality, playability, and safety across all 18 holes.

·         Supervise and lead approximately 10 full-time and part-time maintenance employees throughout the golf.

·         Develop and execute pesticide and fertilizer application programs to maintain turf health, playability, and environmental compliance across the golf course.

·         Maintain compliance with all state-mandated requirements for pesticide recordkeeping and storage.

·         Work closely with mechanic to ensure turf equipment is well maintained and functioning properly.

·         Manage the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of the golf course irrigation system to ensure efficient water use.

·         Lead and collaborate with the maintenance crew on course setup and maintenance to maintain tournament-quality conditions throughout the year.

·         Lead and collaborate on projects designed to improve course conditions and elevate the player experience.

·         Manage and execute on-course setup for tournaments and events during the golf season.

·         Perform plowing, snow removal, and cross-country ski trail grooming during the winter season.

Educational Requirements

·         Vermont pesticide applicators License, or ability to acquire one.

·         GCSAA membership

·         Degree in Turf, Agronomy, or related field

·         Minimum of 3 years as superintendent or first assistant

·         Knowledge of agronomic practices and able to manage cool season grasses in a northern climate.

·         Direct Experience with irrigation repair and operation

·         Experience with maintaining and repairing turfgrass equipment including reel mowers.

Experience Requirements

Job Benefits

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $65,000 – $74,000 (commensurate with experience), 10 days PTO

Professional Development: Dues paid for GCSAA and VTGCSA memberships.
