Turf Equipment Technician

Beachwood Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is seeking a Lead Golf Course Equipment Technician to oversee the maintenance and repair of the golf course equipment fleet.

Beachwood Golf Club has made significant investments in both golf course infrastructure and personnel, with ongoing improvements and renovations since 2023 to modernize a property originally constructed in 1967. The golf course averages approximately 55,000 rounds annually, making equipment reliability and quality of cut critical to daily operations.

This position offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to take ownership of the equipment maintenance program, while also having the ability to shape and modernize the equipment shop. Ownership is supportive of continued improvements to shop organization, work efficiency, and equipment maintenance systems to meet modern industry standards.

Our equipment fleet currently consists primarily of well-maintained owned equipment, with ownership open to evaluating future lease programs or fleet upgrades as the operation continues to evolve. 

Beachwood currently utilizes Bernhard reel and bedknife grinders, maintaining a consistent quality of cut is a top operational priority.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues across a wide range of golf course maintenance equipment including gasoline, diesel, and electric units.
• Maintain equipment including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, aerifiers, topdressers, and other equipment (including CAT 415 backhoe and Kubota tractors).
• Diagnose and repair 2-cycle and small engines used in landscape equipment such as blowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and handheld tools.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and manage repair costs within the annual equipment budget.
• Maintain, grind, and adjust reel and rotary cutting units to ensure optimal performance and quality of cut.
• Adjust mower setup based on course conditions, weather, and tournament preparation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, with the opportunity to improve shop layout, systems, and tooling.
• Track parts inventory, fluids, and shop supplies.
• Maintain accurate equipment service records and work orders.
• Coordinate with the Superintendent and management team to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
• Perform field repairs when equipment breakdowns occur on the course.
• Assist with training staff on proper equipment operation and care.

-Current Fleet consists of Toro cutting units (3150,3300,5510,4500)

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining golf course or commercial turf equipment preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and fuel systems.
• Experience with reel mower grinding and set-up preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and parts inventory.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with the management team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when necessary.
