Frank spends time chatting with Professor Bryan Unruh from the University of Florida and a national leader on the development of the science-based standards of environmental stewardship on golf courses, AKA as Best Management Practices.
Frank and Bryan speak about his early days of research and introduction to extension as a youth (he still has his fingers and toes to prove he paid attention in the Mower Safety program) followed by a short discussion on his research with Emeritus Professor Nick Christians at Iowa State on Corn Gluten Meal and the potential as a turfgrass herbicide.
The bulk of the conversation addresses the development, publication, and adoption of BMPs in FL and now nationally. Concerns are discussed regarding validation of these practices on golf courses as potential regulation looms for golf courses nationally. Leaving us to wonder how many in the golf industry "care" about BMPs?
