Member Tournament Prep at Tara Iti
Tournament week here at Tara Iti. The Kayne Cup is a 40-hole member-member tournament. It has four different formats. Two nine holes better ball, Chatmin 9 hole, nine-hole scramble, and a four-hole shoot-out. This is the first Kayne Cup since 2018 since COVID.
Starting the week was the 2023 women's Kayne Cup that started on Sunday-Tuesday. Wednesday was an off day. Thursday-Saturday was the Mens Kayne Cup. They moved the 9-hole format to Thursday with bad weather expected on Friday and played 27 holes.
We cut greens and cups every day. Fairways/tees were cut on Monday. Surrounds were cut Monday and Wednesday. The start time was 5 am, and we had to be off the course by 9 am.
List of equipment needed for morning setup and also for the mechanic.
Once the tournament started each day, we had to be off the course. We spent our time working at housing sites and landscapes around the course. Once the tournament was over, we interns and assistants returned to the course to do some hand watering and cleaning up the driving range for the following day.
Overall the Kayne Cup has been successful. The course looks and plays amazingly well, and the members are enjoying their time. We will have no tournament on Sunday but starting next week, the member-guest will begin.
