Since I started blogging for TurfNet in May I have wrote 54 posts making this number 55. With the turn of the New Year coming up I thought it would be fun to look back at the top 10 most viewed posts form the year. All ten come from my time in Ireland so I will include a bonus post of the top post from New Zealand.

  1. "Out With the Hot, In With the Cold"
    • The heat cooled down, but the irrigation system was having some problems. I topdressed greens for the first time seeing how accurate sand can be put down by hand.
  2. "Irish Open: Day 7 and Closing Remarks"
    • The wrap up to a fantastic week at The 2014 Irish Open hosted by Fota Island. I met some great greenkeepers, saw a fantastic golf finish, and learned about tournament work.
  3. "Cutting Cups and Picking Pin Placement"
    • How do you cup your cups? How often? Where are pins placed? Often jobs get done without thinking about why it is done. A look into reasons behind one of the most important, yet overlooked, tasks.
  4. "Irish National Heritage Park, Sod Work, Graiguenamanagh"
    • A visit to the Heritage Park seeing some history of Ireland. Weak areas on the putting course were sodded and then went into the quiet town of Graiguenamanagh.
  5. "A Nice Day for Pics"
    • A few pictures from a beautiful day on the course.
  6. "Delta Sensory Gardens"
    • A trip to Carlow to see the Delta Sensory Gardens. Loaded with flowers and plants the garden touches your senses by smelling the scents of the plants, seeing the beautiful colors, touching pieces of art, tasting herbs, and hearing the whisper of the wind and the gushing of running water.
  7. "Topdressing: A Key Cultural Practice"
    • Topressing is a key practice to the growth of healthy grass. Improvement of root zone for increased drainage and reducing thatch buildup are some benefits of periodic topdressing. This is further improved with aeration. Topdressed the putting course for the only time during the summer.
  8. "The Greatest Job"
    • Anyone who has worked on a golf course can testify to the beauty of the course as the sun rises over the horizon creating a thin steam of evaporating dew. The smell of the first cut of grass on a cool crisp morning is a thing of beauty. Turfgrass maintenance is a labor of love. Problem areas on the putting course were sodded and the greens were fertilized. The bunker that was fixed actually took hold by the end of my time at Mt. Juliet.

  9. "Belated Introduction"
    • My late introduction to the readers of the blog.
  10. "A Ride on the Dunbrody"
    • The Dunbrody, a famous famine ship out of New Ross, brought Irish men and women to new lands in search of new lives. The 1840s potato famine in Ireland had a huge impact on the history of the Irish. Those who survived saw many horrors. Ships like the Dunbrody brought hope to families impacted by the blight.

Bonus: "Going Down Under"

  • An introduction to my time in New Zealand.
