"Player" profile: Mike 0'Keeffe
Mike O'Keefe, Director, Ohio State University Global Internship Program.
Background: I am from Ireland originally and come from a dairy farm near Newmarket in Co.Cork. I studied Horticulture in Co.Meath and worked in Holland and France before moving to the States in 1986. We bring in close to 500 interns a year from 31 countries to the USA and we send American interns overseas for similar experience in Horticulture, Agriculture and Turfgrass management. (one is volunteering this week also, Nate McKinniss).
Previous International Travel: Because of my job I have travelled to over 32 countries around the world, and met some great people along the way. The best people are in the turf business. They are friendly, accommodating and great team players.
Previous Tournament Experience: I have had the pleasure of volunteering at World Golf Championships, numerous U.S. Opens, five Masters tournaments and numerous PGA Championships, but never The Irish Open. I take this opportunity as an honor to help, to be involved with someone I've known for over 20 years. (Gerry Byrne).
Role in Ireland: My role for the Irish Open is to be adaptable and do whatever job I am given because I'm here to be a team player.
Hope to Experience/Bring Back: I hope to make as many friends as possible, make this tournament the best it can be for Gerry Byrne, and walk away with a sense of pride that we did that, and we were a part of such a great event.
