TurfNetRADIO SPECIAL ALERT!

4af5ce86fed7f0073d6e11e55de99208-.jpgWe interrupt our normally scheduled Rockbottum chaos to issue this Special Alert Bulletin!  Did you hear Chava McKeel, GCSAA's Director of Government Relations, on TurfNetRADIO?  If not, you might be unaware of what is actually playing out with WOTUS, one of those "regulations" that somehow becomes law because some bureaucrat signed it.

You can hear Chava on Frank Rossi's Frankly Speaking, a TurfNetRADIO show that is really, really good.  I would have never known the details of this issue or learned how articulate and essential McKeel is, had I not heard the interview.  Like others, I would have continued to drift along in delusional denial, assured by the cryptic mutterings of the Green Chairman's lawyer buddy that, "All is well, WOTUS means nothing."

After hearing McKeel's professionally delivered opinions, I came to a couple of conclusions.  First, the GCSAA is to be commended (WHAT says me?) for spending member's hard-earned dues on Chava McKeel and lobbying efforts.  Her work is absolutely vital for the future of golf.  (A lot more vital than some of the poobah junkets, one could argue...)

Second, because we live in a time where our government regulatory agencies resemble the movie Idiocracy and our news sources are more like "Reality TV Meets TMZ", we need highly intelligent representation in government--like McKeel--and venues like Frankly Speaking to make sure oafs, knaves and varlets like me understand what's happening.

522c2c59236d840cd6e6784fadb742e2-.jpgNow, keep in mind this is not the REAL radio - the kind where you spin the dial to your preferred station - these are audio podcasts. Don't let that scare you off.  It's yet another way to cram our brain-idle time with worthwhile stuff (or not, depending on your preferences). And listening is as easy as firing up iTunes, Stitcher or any one of the podcast apps for your smartphone.

This week, Rossi interviewed Dr. Bert McCarty of Clemson on UDs, PGRs and the wickedness of bentgrass.  (I added that last part.)  48 minutes flew by, as I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the straight-up truth about UD and Boiled Putting Cabbage.  It also helped that Dr. McCarty is a Southerner, because I speak fluent Southern.  (Rossi speaks Nawthen at 85mph, with gusts up to 150.)

One of the other jewels of TN Radio (along with The Renovation Report), Dave Wilber's Turfgrass Zealot Project has become part of my week.  It's addictive.  I look forward to plugging in the headphones and telling everyone, "I'm working, leave me alone."  Because I am working . . . and enjoying it.

aaec9bc8c79ff2858896b8b3fb56cbcd-.jpgDave's smooth-as-apple-butter delivery, combined with really interesting guests like Jon Scott, Don Mahaffey and Tommy Naccarato is entertainment blended with golf insider information, history, and odd facts you probably didn't know.

I strongly suggest you give TurfNet Radio a test drive, even though you might be too busy to breathe.  Hey, I was initially convinced that I could not possibly spare 45 minutes for a radio program--due to computers, I now have a 7-second attention span--but I have no trouble finding time for Dave and Frank.

*Warning: Try to avoid the TZP segment where Dave tried to interview me.  I will admit it was my fault, but in fairness, it's not like Dave didn't know what he was getting into.

Once again you amaze me with your insights and humor. Thanks for tuning me into stuff that I would have skipped over looking into. Even though I have no excuses due to conversion to bermudagrass, and I find I have to now think of things to keep me at work. I thought I did hear though that the GCSAA has really clamped down and are not paying for wives of board members to travel, meals and accommodations for golf tournaments around the world any longer or maybe thats in the works because dues keep going up!

I will admit to shying away from the podcsts. Dipped a toe in here or there but now am hooked they are great. Loved when Frank had Norm Hummel. Was riveted. Of course Dave's show is sure to plummet with future guests like Kiger and yours truly.... Sorry Dave

Ditto, mowing greens. But I look like an idiot with wire haging down from my radio worktunes. This week I forgot and left the radio on in the background. Only yanked the bud out of my ears once reaching for the lift mow joystick

Smooth as Apple Butter doesn't even begin to describe the delivery of Matt Crowther on the latest episode of the TZP. Talk about killing it! He certainly did!!!!!
