Somerset Hills Country Club was established in 1899 and is located in Bernardsville, NJ.   Due to being one of his earliest creations,  A.W. Tillinghast was doing a lot of tinkering and fine tuning of his craft which has left us with a very unique piece of property with a lot of variety hole to hole.  In the past ten years, in coordination with Renaissance Golf, a lot of work has been done to get it back to it's original design and how Tillinghast envisioned it being played.  The golf courses best defense is playing conditions and the green complexes.  Although not long in length, strategy goes into every shot. From an agronomic and playability standpoint, there is only one goal.  The goal is to maintain the golf course as firm as possible through the green.  We are constantly scheming new agronomic ways to accomplish this goal and to provide playing conditions that are not normal for Americanized golf.  Water management and proper agronomics is at the utmost importance.   We are currently in the midst of an in-house bunker restoration in coordination with Renaissance Golf.  All work is being done by the staff including shaping, drainage, installation of Capillary Concrete, and creation/installation of our custom bunker sand blend.  Our current Senior Assistant is overseeing this project while training the rest of the team in preparation of his eventual departure for a Superintendent position.  Other projects that should be happening in the near term is the renovation of our practice tee complex, renovation/restoration of the 10th hole, and a dam renovation.   Although this posting is for an AIT, titles are only important for the resume.  We have a great group of young turf professionals who all work as one team, sharing all the responsibilities.  The goal is to put out a memorable product that highlights the team.

Chevy Chase Club was organized in the fall of 1892 by a group of men from the Metropolitan Club of Washington, D.C., including Francis G. Newlands. The Club’ s first permanent location was in 1894 on a tract of land that included a pre-revolutionary war frame house known as the Bradley Farmhouse built in 1747. The game of golf was introduced with six holes at the Club in 1895, the same year the USGA was founded. In 1897, the Club was able to purchase this 9.36-acre tract on which the Bradley House was situated. Today, the club offers an 18-hole golf course, golf practice facility, 17 outdoor tennis courts, four indoor tennis courts, seven paddle tennis courts, a fitness facility, three swimming pools, eight lanes of duckpin bowling, an outdoor ice rink, an eighteen room guest house, a nature trail and greenhouses. Food and beverage facilities include three clubhouse dining rooms, full banquet facilities, two seasonal sports canteens and a casual dining Winter Center. The club first introduced golf in 1895 with just 6 holes, in 1896 the 6 hole course was expanded to 9 holes, in 1909 and very early in his career, Donald Ross expanded the existing 9 holes to 18 holes. In 1924 the firm of Colt & Alison re-designed the existing Donald Ross course to the current routing that exists today with some modifications made by various architects throughout the years. The club has recently engaged golf course architect Andrew Green to begin research on a course master plan in works for 2023 - 2024.  Today, the golf course consists of creeping bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens. The course hosts approximately 19,000 rounds and is predominately  a walking club.

Course Description:         CVGC is an equity club with approximately 500 members. Founded in 1923, CVGC underwent a renovation to its greens tees, and fairways in 2008, under the direction from Forse Design. Bunkers were restored in 2004. The club is in the preliminary steps of undergoing a long-range improvement plan to the golf course and campus wide in coordination with Forse Design and the McMahon Group. Our company, Greenscape Methods built Nine Grande Golf Course in 2018. Course design by Mike Nuzzo and is 9-hole regulation, 9-hole short course, and 9-hole putting course.  The course opening has been delayed due to a number of issues unrelated to the golf course itself and the owners retained us to grow in and manage the course until the clubhouse and maintenance facility are constructed. The Equipment Manager reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and/or the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, fuel usage, placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment service, and assisting with other tasks, as needed. The equipment manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent and or the Assistant Superintendent, and schedules and directs the work assignments on a weekly and daily basis. The Equipment Manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.   Duties performed: Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment including, diesel, electric and gasoline-powered trucks, trenchers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work. Instruct and/or training golf course maintenance workers regarding preventative maintenance and the proper cleaning of safe operation of equipment. Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work with Superintendent. Maintain a preventative maintenance program within a budget on all equipment,  and purchase repair parts and replacement supplies. Keep a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs, and preventative maintenance for all equipment. Spot check equipment for performance on the course, make emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and service or supervise servicing of equipment prior to use. Oversee the shop area maintenance with Superintendent Regulate employees’ use of equipment in the absence of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, if needed Perform other duties as directed by the superintendent.
