The Irrigation and Spray Technician, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the programming, operation and maintenance of the golf course irrigation system along with safely and accurately mixing and applying plant protectants and fertilizers. The Irrigation and Spray Technician also assists in general golf course maintenance practices as needed. · Attend to the immediate needs set forth by the Superintendent, Senior Assistant, Members and their guests. · Perform work in all climatic conditions including cold, hot and rainy weather. · Properly and safely operate nearly all equipment within the operation. · Show a sense of urgency during all tasks taking pride in your work and owning all outcomes. · Possess a “can do” attitude in order to execute operational goals and plans. · Report prior to crew start time, assisting in equipment setup or spray application preparation if requested in advanced by the Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant. · Actively report questions, concerns, observations or ideas to the Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant and/ or Equipment Technician regarding equipment or golf course maintenance practices. · Provide suggestions, recommendations findings and constructive criticism to the Senior Assistant and/ or Superintendent regarding the daily procedures, so that we may continue to provide a high level of Member – Guest conditions. · Assist Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent in organizing thoughts and planning for future maintenance practices. · Keep a clean, organized and safe facility. · Refuel and clean all equipment as specified by the Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant. · Focus on being be very detailed oriented, striving to finish the job right the first time. Quality yet quantity go hand in hand in all aspects of your workday. · Provide Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant with current purchasing needs related to the irrigation system, spray application equipment and supplies associated with product applications. · Advise the Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant of improper equipment operation or daily cleaning/ refueling of equipment fleet so that corrective actions may be carried out in a timely yet professional manner. · Possess working knowledge of the hydraulics and basic electricity related to the irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of general pumps and pumping systems. · Operate the irrigation system by central computer and RainBird Mobile Interface. · Repair irrigation heads, pipes or other system components as needed. · Maintain an ongoing maintenance log of irrigation issues, repairs needed, location of the repairs and status of the repairs within our Green Department Google Drive. · Order all supplies and parts for irrigation repairs after obtaining an “OK” on a purchase order from Superintendent or Senior Assistant Superintendent. · Apply pesticides and fertilizers safely and accurately to golf course surfaces using spray hawk, boom sprayer, vicon and push spreaders regularly. · Record applications using SPARKS. · Assist Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent with Early Order purchasing and inventory record keeping. · Attend a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education per year related to job development and career progression. · Attendance during weekends and holidays as necessary based on golf course demands and pre-determined operation schedule will be required. Flexibility in work schedules is necessary. Average work weeks range between 40-60 hours with over time paid after 40 hours/ week. · Assist in snow removal duties when necessary. These procedures may occur during scheduled weekends off or in the evenings. The Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent will work with the Irrigation and Spray Technician to provide time off prior to or following the snow event. · Communicate with Superintendent and/ or Senior Assistant Superintendent of time off requests well in advance (2 weeks minimum for vacation time off).
