With only 800 golf rounds played annually, along with closing from June through August, Cherokee will provide a great learning opportunity. The course was designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1999. In 2000, Cherokee hosted a Shell’s Wonderful of Golf with David Duvall and Ernie Els. During the summer of 2021, the course underwent an extensive renovation. The renovation included a new Toro Lynx irrigation system, XGD drainage, sand capping the fairways, tees, and approaches, and new grass installed. The fairways were converted to Zorro Zoysia. The tees and approaches were converted to Prizm Zoysia. Future summer projects will include more XGD drainage, tee and bunker additions, and more renovations already underway.
