We strive to provide you with an in-depth knowledge of the entire golf course maintenance operation at Shoreacres. Shoreacres is a dynamic Club that combines aspects of a country club and a golf club. You will experience aspects of a country club operation, such as corporate outings, tennis, weddings, and other functions, all the while, the golf course is expected to be maintained to a standard comparable to the best clubs in the country. This duality will allow interns to develop skills other than those strictly pertaining to golf course maintenance and succeed at ANY of the finest clubs going forward. The management team at Shoreacres has previously worked at clubs across the United States, such as Merion Golf Club, Shinnecock Hills, Chicago Golf Club, and Baltusrol with extensive Major Championship experience. We are more than willing to use our network to assist with placing individuals at different clubs, at the conclusion of the internship. Interns are paid $14/hr. plus overtime and can expect to work 65 hours per week, with every other weekend off. Lunch and dinner are provided on all days that the club is open. Both championship courses are designed by storied architect, Donald Ross, and the East Course is consistently ranked as a top 25 course in the country and one of the greatest venues for championship golf. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Student Intern participates in the golf course maintenance department’s day-to-day activities, while maintaining a high standard of quality to meet the expectations of a demanding membership. The Student Intern will work with existing management staff in the planning, scheduling and supervising of the maintenance of: putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers and associated support facilities. He/she will participate in chemical and fertilizer applications, calibration of equipment, record keeping, hand watering and syringing of playing surfaces, operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation and drainage systems. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, organized, dedicated, detail-oriented and able to work in a team environment. Fenway is ranked in the Top 100 of Classic Golf Courses, built and designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1924. In its continual quest to maintain the quality of its facilities, the membership retained the services of renowned Golf Course Architect, Gil Hanse, to perform "a gentle restoration" of the original Tillinghast design. Hanse, aided by Tillie's original plans and aerial photographs of the course (believed to be taken in the late 1920's) painstakingly went about restoring many of the green and bunker complexes originally created by Tillinghast and orchestrated the removal of hundreds of trees in order to reestablish the sightlines originally envisioned by the master himself. Gil continues to serve as the club's architect and is entrusted to ensuring that this Tillinghast treasure loses none of its glorious luster. Fenway is currently working with Gil Hanse and is in the last phase of a Master Plan Update.
