James River is a private Country Club opened in 1932.  The club worked with golf course architect John LaFoy to complete a bunker renovation in the spring of 2019.  Golf course is comprised of A4 bentgrass greens, celebration bermuda tees, fairways and roughs, and fine fescue in the tree lines.  James River is maintained to the highest standards daily and has thus become popular for championship events including US Amateur qualifiers, Mid-Atlantic Golf Association Championships and VSGA championship events.  The golf and grounds maintenance department is responsible for all grounds on the property in addition to the golf course.  We are also the home of the country’s oldest golf museum.  Golf and grounds maintenance budget is around $1.1M.   Candidate will be responsible for fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as supervision of the crew and ensuring that quality standards are achieved on a daily basis.  Will work closely with the Superintendent to make agronomic decisions to provide both health and playablity of the course.

Cornerstone Golf Club is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong irrigation maintenance experience, as well as Chemical/Fertilizer application experience.  With the help of many valuable resources at their discretion, the right candidate for this position will be an independent starter but capable of leading small labor forces on irrigation projects at times.  Rainbird experience is preferred but not required. Electrical troubleshooting with Rainbird components is also a benefit.  The selected individual must be hands-on and detail oriented in all maintenance and repairs.  When not involved in irrigation maintenance, this individual will be utilized in chemical and fertilizer applications, as well as staff supervision. Our equipment fleet features Toro spray equipment with GeoLink technology.  This position will give the proper candidate the background to become a successful Superintendent in the private golf market.   Responsible to Director and Superintendent. Perform chem/fert applications with Toro Geo Link System Assist in inventory monitoring/maintenance. Assist in nightly scheduling of Rainbird Cirrus Central Control. Perform daily maintenance, including leak repair, of all in ground system plumbing. Perform daily adjustments and system checks of Rainbird heads. Responsible for daily service, maintenance of 2 pump stations. Responsible for daily monitoring, operation of transfer pump to secure water levels. Perform accurate daily irrigation, transfer logs. Regularly supervises small labor force special projects.  Work closely with Crew Foreman in daily operations. Responsible for all spring time start up and winter blow out of system with staff assistance. Responsible for all non golf course irrigation, including clubhouse and cabin landscapes. Maintains inventory levels for all irrigation hardware. Perform snow removal and winter recreation maintenance.

Wapika Ranch, a private working ranch and family retreat is seeking a qualified full-time Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Superintendent. The nine-hole golf course is located at 6925’ elevation in a remote rural area on the upper Green River 20 miles south of Pinedale, Wyoming. The Golf Course Architect is Carl Thuesen and the par 36, 3652-yard design utilizes the Green River and its tributaries, natural wetlands, irrigation ditches, and 4 ponds to create a unique test of golf that is both challenging and playable for all golfers. Fall of 2017 consisted of sodding T1 bentgrass green and bluegrass tees and fairways along with seeding roughs to a fescue mixture. The Ranch also includes a Fishing Village, a Riding Arena, and a Children’s Barn along with extensive landscaping at each facility. The Ranch is also in the process of constructing an additional 9 holes. Construction began on the ‘Moose 9’ in July 2024 with a projected completion date in the Summer of 2026. Pinedale is the gateway to the Wind River Range, Wyoming Range and the Jackson Hole Area, including Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Wyoming is an outdoors state with low property taxes and no state income tax. Both winter and summer outdoor recreation activities abound in a small-town atmosphere.

Founded in Washington D.C. in 1921, Argyle moved to its current location in Silver Spring, MD in 1945.   The course was designed by Perc LeDuc and recently renovated by architect Joel Weiman.  Argyle is known for having some of the area’s top golfers who consistently compete in state and national amateur championships including PGA Tour Member Denny McCarthy who grew up at the Club, and 2023 U.S. Junior Amateur Champion Bryan Kim.   Argyle regularly hosts USGA qualifying and MSGA events including the Maryland State Amateur Championship in 2022 and will host the 2026 Maryland Open. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Director and will be involved in all aspects of the Greens & Grounds operation including daily golf course maintenance, water management, pesticide and fertilizer applications, clubhouse grounds maintenance, budgeting, and project management.  Qualified candidates including those currently in turf school that expect to graduate in Spring 2026 are encouraged to apply.

      Originally designed by famed Golf Course Architect, George Thomas in 1908.  William Flynn and Donald Ross both tweaked the property prior to World War II.  George Crump, Hugh Wilson and A.W. Tillinghast were all friends of Thomas and likely consumed the layout many times.  Whitemarsh Valley Country Club is a traditional, member owned private club with 700 members (410 golfing), gross revenue of $10 million with a $2.2M operating grounds budget.  22,000 rounds of golf played per year with approximately 13,000 of those rounds being cart rounds.  The main Clubhouse, which includes member dining facilities, banquet space, staff offices and pro shop, underwent an extensive renovation in 2018.   The course has hosted numerous tournaments over the years.  The US Open was scheduled to occur at Whitemarsh Valley in 1917.  It was canceled due to World War I and the Patriotic Open was held in its place.  WVCC has hosted the Philadelphia Amateur more times than any other club in the area and just recently hosted its sixteenth in 2024. As a regular PGA Tour stop from 1963-1980 the course saw Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Bob Murphy, Billy Casper, Tom Weiskopf and Tom Kite lift the Champions Trophy. In 2012, Whitemarsh Valley hired  Andrew Green to design a Master Plan for the golf course.  Several holes in the flood plain were reconstructed to allow for better drainage. (Elevating/crowning of fairways, sub-surface drainage, barrancas etc.) All bunkers were reshaped, multiple green expansions were installed to bring back to original design.  All tee complexes were renovated.   A selective tree management program was implemented as well creating stunning vistas and promoting better turf health. Current and planned capital projects on the golf course include bunker renovation, creekbank restorations, putting green construction, fairway/rough re-grassing and new irrigation system.  Annual capital budget for equipment and projects is $500,000. Majority of the greens are poa/bent "push-up" with xgd drainage installed.  There are 5.2 acres of greens/approaches and 26 acres of fairways and tees.  Our Grounds staff consists of 10 full time employees and 10, forty week employees.

The Country Club of Buffalo is a private club that was established in 1889 with the current 18-hole, Donald Ross design opening in 1926. Each year, this course hosts the Korn Ferry event each spring, The Club Car Championship. The course was completely redone in 2010 by Tom Fazio with Tif Eagle greens and Celebration wall-to-wall. Additionally, the approaches and runoffs were replaced with Tif Grand.   The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for a diverse range of activities involved in golf course maintenance and construction. Activities would include assisting in the budgeting, developing agronomical plans, scheduling, andng the daily activities such as course setup, daily maintenance, cultural practices, chemical application and calibration, irrigation problem solving and repair, and leading projects in construction, renovati then implementions, and enhancements. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for leading, directing, overseeing, assisting, training, and coaching staff.
