James River is a private Country Club opened in 1932.  The club worked with golf course architect John LaFoy to complete a bunker renovation in the spring of 2019.  Golf course is comprised of A4 bentgrass greens, celebration bermuda tees, fairways and roughs, and fine fescue in the tree lines.  James River is maintained to the highest standards daily and has thus become popular for championship events including US Amateur qualifiers, Mid-Atlantic Golf Association Championships and VSGA championship events.  The golf and grounds maintenance department is responsible for all grounds on the property in addition to the golf course.  We are also the home of the country’s oldest golf museum.  Golf and grounds maintenance budget is around $1.1M.   Candidate will be responsible for fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as supervision of the crew and ensuring that quality standards are achieved on a daily basis.  Will work closely with the Superintendent to make agronomic decisions to provide both health and playablity of the course.

Check random areas on the course with soil probe for moisture excess or dryness.  Root depth and soil conditions should be noted. Note dew pattern as an indicator of moisture levels. Work with the mechanic daily on equipment use and requirements.  Assure that all equipment is properly set up and operating as needed in the field. Discuss daily schedules, programs and concerns with the Golf Course Superintendent with attention to efficient management and quality control in mind. Obtain daily labor reports from the Administrative Assistant for the purpose of managing labor budgets. Assure that all issues and concerns are brought to the Golf Course Superintendent as quickly as possible in order to lessen potential negative impact. Reedy Creek Golf Course is an 18 hole, Gene Hamm designed golf course located near Four Oaks, North Carolina. Reedy Creek is 20 miles southeast of Raleigh and conveniently located just 2 miles from I-40 and 10 miles from I-95.  The course opened in 1988 and is a family owned, daily fee facility that is open to the public. Reedy Creek consists of Champion Ultra Dwarf Bermuda greens and 419 Bermuda grass on the fairways, tees and rough. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Superintendent in the daily operation of golf maintenance and agronomy. Additionally, this role is responsible for the supervision and direction of daily crew activities. The duties include turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, staff scheduling, asset/expense management, and also regular maintenance of equipment and irrigation/pesticide applicators.  This position is a full time role with a rotating weekend schedule.
