The Sandhills look a lot like sand dunes at the beach but with trees and other vegetation. They have a striking appearance with islands of exposed sand and sparse vegetation interspersed with tall pines and an open understory. Longleaf pine, turkey oak, and wiregrass are the most common vegetation. The area has abundant deer, turkey, quail, and other wild game.
