(Jan-August)   Apogee Club is a passion project presented by two highly successful businessmen, Mr. Michael Pascucci & Mr. Stephen Ross. Apogee is currently in the construction phase with plans to construct three, 18-hole golf courses, two short courses, a Himalayas-style putting green & two driving ranges over 1200 acres. The West Course, designed by Gil Hanse & Jim Wagner opened in late 2023 while the Fazio/Davis Course opened in late 2024 with its 55+ acre driving range, recently voted "Best Practice Facility" by Golf Digest.  The West Course, designed by Kyle Phillips is in the final stages of construction & grow in & will open later this fall. The main driving range encompasses over 55acres, has 360* of tee space, 7 acres of shortgame area. The West & South Courses are blanketed with TifTuff turf & TifEagle greens, while the North Course has Tifgrand shortcut. The Par 4 Course, which will open in early 2026, will have Citrazoy zoysia roughs, Tiftuff shortcut. SUMMARY Mountain Lake is a historic gated community in Lake Wales, approximately 55 miles from Orlando, Florida. Founded in 1916, Mountain Lake was developed with the help of Frederick Olmstead III, and noted golf course architect Seth Raynor. The golf course is often ranked in the top 100 courses in the country. Mountain Lake built the "Colony House" in 1916, which is a seasonal hotel with approximately 32 rooms, and is open for three meals a day from October 1 to May 1. The course has Tif-Eagle bermudagrass greens, Trinity zoysiagrass tees, and Tifway 419 bermudagrass fairways and rough. The Club has retained golf course architect, Tyler Rae, to develop an enhancement plan for the course. This plan has been approved by the Board and will take place starting April 2026. The Club has also retained NMP Golf Construction to perform the work. The work will include the rebuilding of all 18 golf course greens, plus a practice putting green. Furthermore, bunkers will be relocated and reconstructed. Per Tyler’s Plan, golf holes will mainly stay the same, but many of the greens and bunkers will be reshaped/designed back to the original Seth Raynor design, backed by Tyler Rae’s vision. Vintage aerials have been acquired by Tyler and his team, and that plan is mostly based on those pictures. Golf Course Maintenance/Agronomy Intern works directly under the supervision of the Golf Course & Grounds Manager and Senior Assistant Superintendent and is responsible for the maintenance and care of the golf course and related grounds.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:   1. Operates most, if not all, equipment used on daily maintenance, both walking and riding equipment as well as restricted use pieces of equipment. Operates small machinery to assist with edging, trimming and mowing. Involved with tasks related to golf course detail (weed and debris clean-up, poa eradication, etc). Participates in topdressing and fertilizer applications of greens, tees and fairways and lawns.  Maintains gasoline or diesel, oil and other equipment fluid levels daily.  Checking in at both the beginning and end of shift. Report equipment problems and failures to the mechanic immediately and fill out the correct paperwork. May perform daily equipment repair and maintenance as directed by Head Mechanic. Planting, pruning, and transport of vegetative material. Ensures that all equipment used is washed properly, returned to designated location and charging if applicable. Participates in irrigation practices, such as hand watering, syringing and repairs. Involved in leading up small crews and may be relied upon for crew leadership on weekends and available for overtime as needed. Participation in both maintenance, construction, and appropriate miscellaneous projects. Participation in formalized weekly intern meetings held throughout the season. Maintain proper radio etiquette and return radios to chargers when finished. Able to effectively handle multiple tasks. Incorporates safe work practices in job performance. The candidate will be immersed in educational and informative conversations relating to agronomics and course preparations with the Superintendent and Assistants. The candidates will experience all aspects of what it takes to be a great turf manager, and to provide the membership with the best possible golfing experience through unmatched golf course conditioning on a daily basis. The candidate will communicate with the Turf Team (Super, Assts & AITs) on the details of general maintenance performed on course, and work with the Greenskeepers on upholding the expectations of the Grounds Department. Turf Grass interns will gain valuable grow-in experience, participate in cultural practices, and learn from an experienced superintendent. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented turfgrass Intern to assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the golf course. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in course construction, the grow-in process, golf course management, and turf care under the guidance of an experienced superintendent. Key Responsibilities: Course Maintenance: Assist in the daily operation of managing high-level turf, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management. Participate in cultural practices.  Management of bent grass, low-mow bluegrass, and fine fescues. Equipment Operation: Learn to operate and maintain various equipment necessary for maintenance. Learn the importance of preventative maintenance and reel grinding.    Irrigation Management: Observe and assist in managing the irrigation system. Basic controller operation: Toro Lynx. Head and pipe repairs as needed. Understand watering techniques: hand watering, portable heads, and overhead irrigation. We are currently converting tee surrounds on the Presidents Reserve from bermudagrass to tall fescue native area.
