Located 80 miles from East Lansing and 40 miles from Detroit, Indianwood Golf and Country Club is a private, 36-hole golf club established in 1925 and the host of three USGA Championships. Students will learn the virtues of firm and fast golf conditioning while building the pedigree crucial to career advancement in this industry.
Definition:
The Student Intern, under the supervision of the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendents, and Assistant Superintendents, will participate in championship-level golf course conditioning involving the use of large equipment, including tractors, loaders, trenchers, skid steers, trucks, sprayers, mowers and other maintenance equipment.
Typical Functions:
• Handwaters or syringes turf under stress.
• May operate boom sprayers and/or hand sprayers for chemical and fertilizer applications.
• Performs cultural practices including but not limited to: mowing, topdressing, verticutting, aeration, and slicing.
• May operate smaller equipment as directed by his/her supervisor.
• Performs extensive turf renovations; including: aeration, slicing, seeding, sodding and extension work.
• Assists with the operation, installation and repair of irrigation and drainage systems.
• Performs course set-up and other duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

Position Summary
We are hiring an Agronomy Intern for May to August in 2026. Our Agronomy Internship is designed to immerse students or recent graduates in every aspect of golf course management at a high-end, multi-course resort in development. Interns will work directly with the agronomy leadership team to build technical expertise and develop leadership skills.
Key Learning Areas. You will gain valuable experience across all aspects of turfgrass and golf course operations, including:
Irrigation Management: Operation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems; moisture management; POGO data collection.
Chemical & Fertilizer Application: Calibration, safe handling, and application of fertilizers and plant protectants; recordkeeping and inventory management.
General Turfgrass Management: Daily course set-up, mowing, rolling, hand watering, bunker maintenance, and surface preparation for championship conditioning.
Staff Leadership & Operations: Crew management, work planning, scheduling, and team leadership during daily setup and cultural practices.
Golf Course Construction: Exposure to in-progress course development, drainage, grow-in practices, and project management.

The Greens Internship immerses individuals in the intricacies of maintaining and enhancing the Club’s greens and outdoor spaces. Interns rotate through various tasks such as mowing, irrigation system maintenance, landscaping projects, and pest control. Under the guidance of experienced Groundskeepers, Grounds Superintendents, and the Director of Grounds, interns gain hands-on experience in advanced turf management practices, ensuring the Club’s outdoor areas are pristine and inviting for members and guests.
