POSITION SUMMARY The assistant golf course superintendent in training (AIT) reports directly to the assistant golf course superintendent. Under the assistant superintendent's supervision, the AIT directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The AIT may serve in the assistant superintendent's capacity during his/her absence. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment. Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline. May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

Augusta Country Club, founded in 1899, is a Donald Ross designed, private equity club located in Augusta, GA. The club is very active, averaging roughly 32,000 rounds a year annually and has a several year waiting list. Over the last decade, the club has invested into the golf course with a new irrigation system and pumpstation installed in 2016, Zoysia shortgrass installation and tree removal in 2018 along with a 2022 Green's Renovation led by Architect Tripp Davis to include new USGA spec Tifeagle greens, sand capped approaches along with greenside and select fairway bunker redesigns. Future projects will include various capital work to include tree plantings, future bunker renovation work, future driving range redesign among other various projects campus wide. The club hosted the GA State Amateur in 2024 with future tournaments over the next decade. At ACC, Assistant in Trainings are treated similar to Assistant Superintendents in our program. This is a program that you will get out of the program what you put into the program. Over the last several years we have had AIT's move onto other properties in management roles, as well as, moving up internally at the club as opportunities allow. As an Assistant in Training, a normal day would include getting to the property early to help the rest of the management team set up the program for the day's success and task wise ranges from raking bunkers and changing cups to calibrating sprayers and spraying, to working on irrigation/drainage projects all the way up to working with the mechanic team to set up mowers. We enjoy working with Assistants in Training to accomplish their goals based on items they feel like they need to improve upon or want to learn more about based on their performance to help them move into successful direct management roles. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES The candidate will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance and work closely with existing team members and management. This includes the entrance and fence. · Ability to work independently to carry out written and verbal instructions · Plans, schedules and monitors operations, which include manpower, equipment, and supply requirements for the department and maintains accountability for the cost, utilization, and performance of employees and equipment. · Maintains required records for: man-hour usage, equipment maintenance, tool inventory, supply inventory, daily log, fertilizer, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, fuel usage, weather, water usage, and all records required by governmental authorities relevant to pesticide usage · Ensures safety regulations, policies and procedures are followed. · Ensures that departmental employees have a clean, organized, and safe working environment which meets all local, state and federal regulations and maintains adequate stock levels. · Assists with the development and implementation of environmental programs consistent with International Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Certification and meet departmental environmental goals. · Selects, orients, trains, motivates and retains staff capable of meeting current and projected personnel needs; makes recommendations and decisions on various personnel matters such as salaries, performance reviews (both annual & semi-annual), and terminations.
