Fox Den Country Club - Knoxville, TN Position Description __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Position Title: Assistant in Training Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent Status: Hourly Club History: Designed and built in 1969 by renowned architect Willard Byrd, who positioned the course perfectly amid the backdrop of the stunning Smoky Mountains, our magnificent setting boasts rolling hills, beautifully wooded areas, ponds, and long fairway stretches. In 2004, Bill Bergin successfully completed a redesign of the golf course, significantly enhancing an already outstanding layout. Multiple tees are available for all ages and ability to navigate the eight water features and 52 strategically placed bunkers protecting our large greens, averaging 7,500 square feet. Each set of nine holes is arranged in an out-and-back design with both the No. 9 and No. 18 holes returning to the clubhouse. Fox Den’s signature hole No. 18, a par 5, requires 3 accurate shots to a green complex guarded by a pond on the right and bunker on the left. Using a golf cart is not mandatory at Fox Den, and walking is always allowed on the course. Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, the A.I.T. participates and helps oversee the maintenance of the Golf Course and Grounds. This position requires someone who is eager to learn and is dedicated to becoming a future leader in the agronomy industry. These duties will include but are not limited to: Assists in daily golf course setup Perform cultural practices such as fertilization, spray applications, aerification and top-dressing. Aid in small project management Operate a variety of turf maintenance equipment, such as greens mowers, fairway units, utility vehicles, and rollers. Perform mowing, edging, trimming, and bunker maintenance to ensure top-quality playing conditions. Education, Certification/License, and Experience: Actively seeking or completed a 2–4 year turfgrass management degree. Obtain a Tennessee pesticide applicator license at a desirable time. Ability to confidently operate turf equipment. Playing knowledge of the game of golf is preferred but not required. Working Conditions/Environment: The candidate must have the physical capability to withstand outdoor working conditions The candidate must be able to lift 50lbs.
