CLUB BACKGROUND: Located in Atlanta, Georgia, East Lake Golf Club is the home course of legendary golfer Bobby Jones and is the oldest golf course in the city of Atlanta. The 18-hole private course began construction in 1904 and was designed by course architect Tom Bendelow. In 1913 the course was redesigned to its current layout by famed architect Donald Ross. In 1994, East Lake’s current Director of Agronomy Ralph Kepple, CGCS worked with Rees Jones on a redesign of the golf course which included reconstruction of the greens, tees, fairways and bunkers, a new irrigation system, a new storm drainage system, a switch to Meyer zoysiagrass fairways, a new maintenance facility and many other upgrades. East Lake Golf Club has played host to several professional and amateur events over the years including the 1963 Ryder Cup, 2001 US Amateur Championship, 2002 Southern Amateur, 18 TOUR Championships and continues to host the East Lake Cup, a collegiate golf tournament developed through The Golf Channel that is held at the end of October. East Lake Golf Club currently serves as the home to the TOUR Championship held each year in August. The responsibility of the Technician is to assist in maintaining the excellent playing conditions of East Lake Golf Club. The Technician will perform minor repairs on a variety of electric, gasoline and diesel powered equipment under the direction of the Equipment Manager. The Technician is responsible for taking all measures available to prevent equipment failures and to report any and all issues to the Equipment Manager. The Technician properly communicates any needs or problems related to the maintenance and repair of all property owned by East Lake Golf Club. The Technician places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and organized shop/work area. • Valid driver’s license • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. • Knowledge of the basic rules of golf • Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment Manager • Moderate exposure to oils, grease, diesel, gasoline, fumes, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, pesticides, mechanical and electrical hazards • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, lay, crouch, push, pull, stretch, bend, walk to perform job tasks correctly • Ability to withstand constant moderate noise levels associated with the shop environment • Assist with repair and maintenance of all golf course maintenance equipment • Sharpen all reel and rotary mowers as needed • Must be highly motivated and a self-starter who can work efficiently • Must be able to work well with the Assistant Turf Technician to compete the daily work load • Must be able to work a very flexible schedule throughout the year • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely • Must be able to work in a variety of work environments including extreme cold, hot, wet and dusty conditions • Effective written and/or oral communications necessary • Performs other non-shop duties as requested by the Equipment Manager
