Some of the projects include: ·      In 2026, work on the Deer Creek course will include strip/flip of greens, collar replacement, and re-grassing of fairways and tees. ·      In 2027 or 2028, there will be a full renovation on the Terrapin Point course. ·      In 2030 and beyond work will begin with phase II of the master plan including irrigation, cart path replacement, tee.  Position Summary: The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will be assigned to the Deer Creek Course. This course is a stand-alone 18-hole property. Each year, this course hosts the Korn Ferry event each spring, The Club Car Championship. The course was completely redone in 2010 by Tom Fazio with Tif Eagle greens and Celebration wall-to-wall. Additionally, the approaches and runoffs were replaced with Tif Grand.   The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for a diverse range of activities involved in golf course maintenance and construction. Activities would include assisting in the budgeting, developing agronomical plans, scheduling, andng the daily activities such as course setup, daily maintenance, cultural practices, chemical application and calibration, irrigation problem solving and repair, and leading projects in construction, renovati then implementions, and enhancements. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for leading, directing, overseeing, assisting, training, and coaching staff. They are responsible for the use, repair, and maintenance of all irrigation equipment and infrastructure on the golf course.  What You’ll Do Operate, maintain, and repair the TORO 2-wire irrigation system, including the Watertronics pump station. Maintain and perform repairs on smart hubs. Troubleshoot wire splices and other electrical issues in the irrigation system, effectively using the wire locator. Complete daily inspections of the irrigation system and routinely check irrigation head arcs, nozzles, and psi.  Repair stuck and broken sprinkler heads and set to grade. VBCC is also the host site of the Grapefruit Pro-AM which is the oldest Pro-Am in the state of Florida and takes place every December.   The Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Superintendent and be involved with building and executing the vision of the Golf Course Maintenance Department. This role will be a working and supervisory position with the opportunity to gain hands on experience in all facets of golf course maintenance. Representing yourself and the club in a professional manner at all times is a must. VBCC is comprised of Seashore Paspalum greens, tees, fairways, and roughs with some Bermuda mixed in throughout the course. We have some “deep rough” areas that are St. Augustine. We are believers of a quality work/life balance and the schedule will reflect that. The typical work week consists of a long Monday (10-12) hours when we are closed, 8-9 hour Tuesdays-Thursdays, and 6 hour Fridays. This position would be responsible for covering every third weekend rotating with the Superintendent and Second Assistant. If you work the weekend you will get the Friday before off. Weekends are typically “mow and go” but you would be on call for your weekend should anything come up. We are in the process of creating an equipment replacement plan to ensure the club has the assets to provide the conditions expected at a top-quality private club. We have received several new work carts over the last year as well as two new Toro fairway units. We have ordered and are waiting for the rest of our Toro equipment consisting of new triplexes, rough units, sand pro, pro core 648, as well as a new salsco roller. We are looking to order another GPS spray unit to compliment the new smithco 1200 we have. We are in the planning stages of a proposed renovation of the golf course that when approved will take place in 2027. We will be regrassing the property with Platinum Paspalum from tee to green. A new irrigation system will also be installed. Greens will be completely rebuilt and will also be Platinum Paspalum. Our irrigation water comes from the main canal that intersects the property and water quality is a concern that makes Paspalum the ideal playing surface.
